Title: CyberStormPPC Query
Post by: Crackpot on January 14, 2021, 09:36:40 AM
Couple of questions re CyberStormPPC cards: What exactly does 'ppcdiss.library' do? - and can the CSPPC's BIOS be safely 'downflashed' to an earlier version? Anyone ever done that - perhaps just for testing purposes?

Just curious.

Cheers, Crackpot

Actually PPC ha been available in FPGA for quite some time. We use them in a lot of the gear I work on professionally, which is military hardware, but you can also read a bit more on it here: https://www.eetimes.com/xilinx-to-embed-powerpc-core-in-fpgas-through-ibm-license-deal/

I am not sure but I guess it allows to disassemble PPC code.

Yes, the flash program will replace the firmware and reset all settings independent of the version.

Note that if you have a flash version which is required to run a G-Rex or CVisionPPC, those extensions might not work any more if you downgrade to an earlier version.
