Title: lha_68k does not work with accelerator card HC533
Post by: SvaboMSX on May 01, 2020, 11:58:22 AM
Dear Amiga Friends

few weeks ago I bought a HC533 Accerlation Board.
Got Kick1.3 and Workbench 1.3 on it to work.

Unfortunately when I try to extract an archive using LHA nothing happens.
Just entering "lha" and hitting enter, the CLI prompt is shown. There is no output from the program LHA, such as synopsis etc.

Does anybody experienced similar problems with command tools, beside running accelerator card?
Does anybody knows alternative to LHA for extracting ?

Thank you and best regards
SvaboMSX

So what lha do you have?

Code: [Select]
Version full file `which lha`

EDIT: Oh crap - OS 1.3? Good luck :)

You may want to update AmigaOS to the latest version (3.1.4) by replacing its Kickstart ROM circuit. Not only will doing so show support for the ongoing OS development, but your Amiga will also be pretty much guaranteed to run any program compiled for your processor. Please stop by Alinea or most other Amiga retailers to place an order (https://www.amiga-shop.net/Amiga-Software/AmigaOS-Amiga-Betriebssysteme/AmigaOS-3-1-4::859.html) - a Kickstart chip, an installation pamphlet and a fresh set of Workbench floppies will cost you around €45. For more information about AmigaOS 3.1.4 and to see a few screenshots, please visit the official product page (https://www.hyperion-entertainment.com/index.php/where-to-buy/direct-downloads/188-amigaos-314).

OS1.3 is considered obsolete - you simply can not use this version with most modern Amiga software. You should always check the requirements of any Software before using it. BTW, for Lha_68K you need at least OS2.04.  ;)

Hi All

thank you for your hints.

LHA  starting Kickstart2.   That makes sense. This explains the behaviour.

Is there an older version of lha existing, with compatible with 1.3 ?

I use Kick 3.1 on my Amiga1200. But on this machine a Amiga500 I wanted to stick to 1.3 for nostalgic reason :-)

regards

I unpacks successfully three different versions of lha. But call of these file does not work.

I now found a version lha_138.
This one seems to be working. HOwever it is a demoversion. I don t know what the limitations are of this version.

Thank you. (I would never think about such a problem due to kick start version)  :-)

Yeah.

Kick 1.3 and WB 1.3 is sooo much cooler...
No point in reducing every Amiga to a keyboard with the same accelerator and FPGA.
(Now someone just needs to port/make a TCP stack)

If you are keep using old software you are obviously missing out on bug fixes and other improvements along the way. especially crunchers/packers you trust your data with.
Of course it might be just for fun (eh, 1.3 Amiga 500), you should keep this in mind.

hi,
thank you for your thoughts.

I'll keep possible bugs in mind.
As you said.. it is just fun for me. Won't try to save personal data on lha archives. It is for unpacking of tools.
It is fun...  even the accelerator card does not needed to be. I just wanted to have a CF Card inside, as replacement for an external harddisk.
It is a charme to click around and compile some stupid  "hello world" programs in C.
Unfurnate I realized that the program "say" does not work. I liked this speaking thing when I was a kid

Take care

IIRC it can extract archives but not make new ones. If I don't remember correctly, I don't apologise: it's been 30 years since I used it! :-D

Yes, but I think it supposed to have translator.library and narrator.device present on disk.

Actually, the limit of that version is that it cannot make self-extracting archives.
