Hello!
Just wondering, IDE on A4000, is it really THAT bad? I have A4000/040 machine with 16Gb CF IDE drive and newest 3.1.4.1 filesystem in it. The other machine is A1200/030 with 4Gb CF IDE drive and PFS filesystem in it. I ran SysInfo 4.0 drive speed tests and was surprised that my A1200/030 HDD was faster that A4000/040.
My DH0 partitions were 1,6Mbytes/sec (A4000) vs. 2,2Mbytes/sec (A1200) and larger DH1 partitions were 1,5/3,2 resectively. Is there something to be done on A4000 or must I spend some more cash (again) on proper IDE interface? I know there are some PIO mode upgrades available, but I'm not sure I'll want to solder any chips on motherboard. I have tried newest Buddha interface but it's only Zorro2 card, so no speed gains were made.

Try a different benchmark, like
http://aminet.net/package/util/moni/RSCP
or
http://aminet.net/package/disk/moni/DiskSpeed42
And then i wonder, if you have a decent CPU card with local Fast RAM in your 4000 and not just the 3640.
The 030 in the 1200 has most likely Fast RAM and burst mode.

Yeah, I'll give it a try with these benchmarks some time soon, but yes, it is bone stock A3640 card indeed. Quite a bottleneck, may I say.
