Hmm, I've been trying to order a Radeon 8500 for my AOne XE from three different resellers in sweden and all of them has stopped shipping 8xxx class cards. All recommending me to order a 9xxx card, gah.
I'm doomed! It seems as if the 8xxx series is being discontinued. I hope that 9xxx drivers will appear soon after the launch of 4.0, since it seems I have no choice but to get a newer model card.
Ohh well..

It's looking a bit slim here in Denmark too, but it seems some still sell 8500's.
I'm not sure what it would cost to get one shipped to Sweden, but you could try looking at www.edbpriser.dk (http://www.edbpriser.dk/) and asking some of the (few) resellers that have it.
But, of course, you'd have to shell out for the danish VAT (25%) :-(

Radeon 8xxx available at www.ebuyer.co.uk and www.starcomputers.co.uk I'm sure they'll ship abroad ;)
If the card is specifically for AOS4, it might be wise to wait and see what works on release and what drivers will appear in a later update.

How is a Radeon 9000 compared to a Voodoo3 or 4 (in price/performance)?
I'm using a Radeon 7000 and I am actually quite happy with that. :-)
-
Perhaps it is because the radeon 8500 is being rebranded as the radeon 9100 in much the same way as the Radeon VE was rebranded as the Radeon 7000. Im pretty sure this is just a marketing decision and makes no changes to the hardware.

It would be nice if forefront technologies would say something about what they think about the situation (that the 8xxx series is going out the door).

Voodoo 3s go for about £20 on ebay, Radeon 7xxx are about £30 and 9xxx £60+. I'm a bit of a skinflint and won't pay extra for cutting edge technology that I can't exploit anyway - the last 'brand new' graphics board I bought for any machine was a CVision 3D64 about 5 years back!
In terms of performance, I can't see there being much difference for 2D work. And most advanced 3D features will be unsupported if running less than DirectX 9 in a Wintel box, let alone in Linux PPC or AOS.

@Orgin
I bought my 8500 from Datorbutiken.com last year :o in december ;) have you tried them?
-
@Muffin
Yepp, they were the first I tried. Ordered at 10th of december. The Radeon 8500 was marked on that order as not available at the 28th of december.

Ahh it wasn't "Datorbutiken" it was "komplett(.se) Data" try them :-)
-
Really? That's odd, I can still get 7XXX series here in town. There's always ebay.

Radeon 8500 still exist, and is in fact re-released under the name of Radeon 9100. It is the same card as Radeon 8500, as Turambar already stated.
