Post by: bradhansen1 on March 25, 2019, 05:37:06 PM
Hi All, After updating to 3.1.4 is it a good idea to install BestWB?

I did on my Amiga, seems to work fine, there are still modifications you need to do to enable some of the features, like ViNCed.

Thanks for the information, can you tell me what the advantage is to
using VINCed?
Thanks,

I did a video review/tutorial on Best WB and AmigaOS 3.1.4 a few months back that goes over some of the best features of the collection. Check it out if you would like. https://youtu.be/7mSHLHynyF8

Hi DC, Thanks for that, I certainly will check it out.  I just found your channel last week and have already
enjoyed a number of your videos.  Waiting for the power supply for the DSB-8220 and I will certainly
use your video on it to setup my BENQ FP937s monitor, funny...

Most likely it is a problem of the mountlist you use to read the contents on the CF.

@Gulliver
I see that BestWB comes with ViNCEd version 3.91 copyrighted Amiga Inc from OS 3.9 - and not 3.73 which was the last version copyrighted by THOR-Software, and the last version to be found on Aminet. Would you care to elaborate on the legal status of this 3.91 version, and on how you have the rights to distribute this version of ViNCEd? Is this version now free to be distributed by anyone? I did not, at a quick glance, find anything in the documentation about this, the HELP:english/ViNCEd.guide only covers 3.74, which clearly states, in caps, that this program, and guide, is licensed to Amiga Inc, solely for inclusion and distribution with their product "Os 3.9". What is ThoR's view on this?

I simply asked its author, Thomas Richter, for permission. He was kind enough to give it to me.

If you want to redistribute his software, I would advice you follow the same path, and ask him.

Except you did not distribute his version, you distribute the version owned by Amiga Inc.

EDIT:
If ThoR feels all the ties with Amiga Inc. are gone regarding ViNCEd, then he should make a new version available (for you, or aminet, or however he sees fit) with all strings regarding ownership or copyrights by Amiga Inc. removed/replaced.

I set it up on my second 4000, and man did it eat the memory!  This is BestWB 1.2  not sure why it ate so much memory, but pretty sure I had 14mb of fast ram free before I installed it, then had like 5mb afterward.

Contact Thomas Richter and point him to this thread, he might find a better solution for both of you.
