Title: Just received an Amiga 2000 motherboard
Post by: rthorntn on October 05, 2018, 02:41:39 AM
Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, apologies if this has been asked a lot before.

I ordered and received from Ebay an Amiga 2000 motherboard with very little if any signs of battery damage, it was sold as for parts but the plan is to get it booting (for nostalgic reasons).

I have all the tools needed to troubleshoot and perform repairs (bench power, hot air, multimeter, oscilloscope, soldering iron).

Denise was missing so I have bought a replacement.

I'm just trying to figure out where to start, how to get it connected to an ATX power supply perhaps?

Looks like it has a composite port so I can connect that into my projector (I know my projector supports 15Hz)?

If I power it correctly, without a battery and keyboard, should I get video?

If I get video, what options do I have for a keyboard and mouse?

That's enough for now.

Thanks.

Richard

Hi, You could buy an adapter for the power supply, or find a guide how to convert the the power supply to Amiga. http://wordpress.hertell.nu/?p=282
When using a non Amiga PS, there is a J300 jumper that switches a TICK clock. http://www.l8r.net/technical/t-2000-jumpers.shtml
FYI, Composite video is in Black and white, so don't worry if something looks odd.
The Mb will work w/o keyboard or battery.
They have mouse and keyboard adapters you can get, and use PC style accessories.
Having a keyboard and a front LED will aid you in troubleshooting if things don't work. When there is an error the CAPS LOCK will blink number of times, and Front LED will dim during reboot.

Thanks, I ordered a couple of these:

I also ordered the Amiga 2000 cable version of the Lyra 3 keyboard adapter from AmigaStore.eu.

Just thinking ahead...

If it doesn't start, are there any good troubleshooting guides and circuit diagrams?

If it does start, is there an inexpensive (around 50 euro) way to attach a storage (SD card) drive to it, I'm happy to have a PCB fabricated and hand solder something to keep the costs down?

Thanks.
