Hi
I had always thought that my black 1084S that came with the CDTV was a paint job. However looking at the label on the rear it actually states its the black version of the monitor. Also, the paint actually goes through the vent fins on the side of the monitor which would have been a tricky paint job.
I note though that the panel behind the drop flap is the original beige colour. The ones I have seen on the web are generally all black. Just curious as to whether anyone else has one with the beige. Mine has lost its main logo on the outside. Bit battered, but still works.

My black 1084S is the same way! It seems it was painted that way in the factory as it also has the barcode identifying it as the "black" model. It came with the CDTV Pro set (keyboard, FDD, mouse) which I bought second-hand from the original owner.

Commodore sold different versions of the black monitor. The first (I think) version was black plastics and the front panel was black. In the later days (or maybe in between) this version was sold out and they colored the "normal" beige 1084. The front panel was left beige (I assume it was to complicated/expensive to paint it black).
The colored version is even more uncommon than the real black ones. Uglier than the real ones, but not that common.

It's all my own stuff. I just spent all my time and resources over the years collecting computers. Before Ebay I would trawl the local rags like Diamond Free Adds and the like. I also used Amibench quite a lot for the Amiga items. I just love computers and have the place filled with them.

I did use to think the same, kinda why I never took it seriously, but the label hasn't been tampered with and the colour has been professionally applied and the labels fixed over. I had kinda come to the conclusion this was Commodore basically using the old stock to try and push the CDTV.
Although they may be a little uncommon I would prefer a totally black monitor.
My one CDTV has some quite strange modifications and I'll feature that in a week or so time. I also found some interesting software for the CDTV and CD32 today which I will give a whirl. Not a great fan of the CDTV but worth firing up I guess... I'll use the black monitor.

I have two of the black wireless Mice for the CDTV and it is interesting. One of them is molded from black plastic. The other is beige, painted black. easy to see when you open the door to pull out the ball. Also surprising since I am sure much use would wear off the paint from handling it, and a mouse gets a lot of handling.

As far as the mice def the one with paint coming off is fake painted.
@ OP
I stand corrected i didnt think they would come from the factory like that. I have personally never seen the cdtv monitor they are extremely rare in usa
