Title: A4000 display problems.
Post by: Munchkin on April 27, 2018, 11:23:42 PM
I made a thread about a PSU for the A4000 earlier but I don't think that's my issue.

I started having problems with not getting any display on my 1084 a while back. This was after I got my scandoubler back from a friend that borrowed it for a while. Never had it powered up during this time so that's why i thought the no-display issue could have been PSU-related.

However. I've now removed the scandoubler as well as my MFC-III so only got the Ariadne-II and the CV64/3D as well as the CS MkII 040/40 connected. I still don't get any display on the 1084, as well as I checked before I changed the setup that I didn't get any display on the VGA monitor I had connected to the scandoubler.

I'm gonna try and hook my 1084 up to my VCR and see if I get a display but since the problem affected the VGA montitor as well I doubt that the 1084 is the problem. So I guess it's a hardware issue on the motherboard and I would appreciate some hints as to what could be the problem.

The computer runs just fine otherwise and I get a normal display via the CV64/3D, it's just the native screenmodes that doesn't work either via the motherboard connector to the 1084 or the video slot scandoubler.

Oh, I forgot to mention.

I'm not getting much at all from the 1084. I cannot access the boot menu, I'm not getting a gree, yellow or any other colour screen. When I do a reset I get a dark gray, a lighter gray and then nothing else until the computer switches over to RTG screenmode and then the 1084 goes black.

Trying to access the boot menu only produces a gray screen.

Hmm, after having the computer on for about an hour I suddenly got access to the boot menu but it's flickering a lot so there is something not right with the signal.

I honestly think it's a cap issue, this 4000 have never been recapped, it's as it was when it left the factory so it's well overdue to do.

This is something I can't do myself though so if anyone have a suggestion for someone in Sweden that can do this for a reasonable price I would appreciate it. Someone that can change my CS MkII from 040 to 060 as well at the same time would be great.
