Are there any spin speed limitations on the A3000 IE 5400, 7200 10000 I'm looking to replace my two 500 meg drives with 1 large drive using OS3.9 . Also what would you recommend as a good setup ..

You might get away with a maximum of 20MB/sec transfer rate, but it varies depending on which CPU you're using and its speed. The disk speed is only relevant to the hard drive itself allowing the ability to transfer more data. Bus speed is more important than disk speed, however, disk speed is good reference, but only limited to the transfer rate the Amiga allows. Also, when you set up in HDtoolbox, make sure the maximum transfer is set to the ability of the hard drive, not default settings.

What I was worried about was the spin up time in a 7200rpm drive as well as a 10000rmp one. I was wondering if the system has enough delay on boot to let the drive reach maxspeed to load the OS..

Commodore seemed to favor Quantum scsi drives, I've used
serveral on my A3000 without any problems, the latest being an "Atlas II 3.5 series", which is either a 4 or 5 gig (?) drive. Not sure about rpm value. A good source of new older hard drives is hightechcafe.com
