I bought Amiga OS 4.0 back in 1987 for my 3000T with Cyberstorm PPC card. When I tried to install my hardware quit working so I was unable to ever install it. I see now they have 4.1 Final Edition for Classic and was wondering if I need to rebuy the OS to get 4.1 or if it is available as upgrades to 4.0? I am getting ready to reload my working machine.
Thanks for any info.

1987? That's pretty impressive, considering it wasn't even released until 2004.
As far as answering your question I have no idea if you can install 4.0 and then run whatever updater it includes a million times to update all the way to the latest 4.1 FE. Personally, if it were me, I'd just pay the money to get the latest 4.1 FE disc and install from that. Will probably give you a much more stable and smooth installation process, if nothing else. Good luck!

Hi Tim,
You'll need to purchase 4.1 Final Edition. It costs about 29 EUR. :)

Man, I don't know where I came up with 1987? That should have said 2007. Ha! Only 20 years difference.
Ok, that's what I'll do, thanks for the info.

As above, you will need to buy 4.1FE because it requires a clean install.

Oh Man! Imagine the chaos that would have ensued if OS4 had been available in 1987.

Just FYI. Before you start working on it, set your expectation as low as possible. Example: If you see ANYTHING during initial boot/install. You can get yourself beer. If you get to the point you can actually INSTALL it, you can drink your beer. IF your Amiga will boot from clean installation/cold start you can get another beer. IF your Amiga will not hung up within next 10 minutes... you can drink it. That way when you get to install "Enhancer Pack 1" (that will screw up whole installation) you are going to be drunk so you will not bother anymore by how bad AmigaOS4.1 is on the Classic :P.
PS. Personally I don't drink... maybe I should when I use my AmigaOS4.1 on my A1200 PPC ;)

OS4.1FE isn't too shabby on my A3000/CSPPC/CVPPC.

I was just about to ask that kolla. Did you have trouble installing it? I have a SCSI2SD board I'm thinking about trying to set it up on with the Cyberstorm. I wonder if that would be slower access than if I used an UWide drive? I have a 4.3 gig ultrawide drive.

I can't remember any problems in particular when installing, no.
I use use a 750GB IDE disk connected to the SCSI3 connector on the CSPPC via an ACARD adapter. I don't remember exactly, but I think perhaps I just copied the content of the boot floppy ADF to a temporary boot partition and copied the content of the CD to another temporary partition aptly named CD0 for the occasion and same label as the OS4.1FE CD, and then installed to a fresh OS4.1 boot partition from those. One thing is certain, my A3000 does not have any floppy drive, and only CD drive I have is a USB DVD drive that works with the Deneb, so I must have been creative :) There are also OS3.9 and MorphOS partitions on that drive, I prepared partitions from OS3.9 first.

I can't use Update 1. It will NOT work (I tried few tricks).
I assume that on A3000 with SCSI works way better then on m A1200 with stock IDE controller (since FastATA that I have and should be supported it NOT supported! - I can't use CD-ROM and HDD at the same time).
So, my AmigaOS4.1 on classic is super slow (read/write). CPU is quite OK for most stuff. It works OKish, looks very nice etc. etc. but I don't consider this as a "final" edition, more like advanced beta. It was cheap (if you have PPC!!!) so no complains here.
I also wish that AmigaOS4.1 would have native access to most other hardware on my Amiga 1200. Then it would be my main OS "forever", but at this point is more a as "I can do it, so I did it".
