Title: CD32 with SX32 Pro
Post by: amiga1084 on February 20, 2018, 12:28:29 AM
Hi All,

I have a SX32 Pro that seems to be very unstable when installed in my CD32 with the caps replaced!

Problem if you lightly bump the machine or if the 030 gets too hot, it crashes! Does anyone have an idea why my SX32 Pro is so unstable? As am sick off opening the CD32 as the cheap plastic is getting weak! I have also stuck heatsinks on most of the SX32 Pro Chips Including the 030!

As I have an SX1 too and thats stable as a rock on the same CD32! Wish my SX32 Pro was the same!

I have a 4 GB CF card to replace the standard harddrive and using a standard A590 Power Supply to provide more grunt to the machine! And 32 Meg 72 pin simm installed!

Pins and edge connector can be real picky between the CD32 and expansions. Ensure they're super clean, free of oxidation, straight and making good physical contact.

If you continue to experience poor performance out of the SX32, hit me up... will be happy to take it off your hands. Will even pay for shipping!

I found that using ThoR's MuLibs and 68030.library improved stability on my SX32 Pro. I don't have any heat sinks or anything like that.

Thanks kolla,

I assumed my SX32 Pro was faulty! I assume from reading your post their not as stable as they should be! Thanks for replying to me, I will try does library you suggest!

Just say I won%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;t do anything too important on the thing just incase it will crash!

Thanks Merv

Is your psu up to the job of running the 030?

Perhaps mod a pc psu and test?

The SX32 Pro suffer from a number of little flaws, like how memory is configured and also various timing issues (like the Apollo cards) that easily cause stability problems. My SX32 was initially bought to run Linux/68k, but it turned out to be a little too flaky for that, also ran OpenBSD (with a NetBSD kernel) for a while before I retired it pure AmigaOS and WormsDC station :) I also for a long time used only an on-screen keyboard and mouse gesture macro program, which I sadly haven't found again.

I used to covet an sx32, but they are ridiculously expensive. I have gone for a TF328 instead. Not as fast as an sx32, but they are rock solid.

Well, my SX32 is more solid than my TF328, lol :)

Well I use a A590 power supply which I think should be more than enough I%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;d think?

For what SX32 Pro are worth! That%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;s shocking if they were unstable even when new! As I mentioned my SX1 on the other is so so stable!

It depends if the PSU is providing a stable output under load...

Also what is wrong with this forum and apostrophes???

Well, the SX32 Pro is so much more than what the SX1 is.

Nothing's wrong with apostrophes, `backticks` though... no, they're ok too :)

This is what powers my SX32. Not pretty but works no problem.
