Title: Key for Amiga 3000T Lock
Post by: madgrizzle on January 30, 2018, 06:33:17 PM
Are the keys for the 3000T the same as a 4000T?  If not, can someone post a picture of a key for the 3000T?  Preferably a close up view.  I can't seem to find one online.

The keys are quite different. 3000T is larger and has different "teeth".

Also still looking for one for my A3000T. Unicorns are easier to find it seems.

I was hoping at least to get some good photos of one (and perhaps measurements) and maybe make an stl and 3d print it.

That might work, but needs very good measurement. I have tried to 3D print a key by taking measurements from the lock of my A3000T and trying to model how the key should look but I didn't manage to get it fitting good enough.

that's what I was worried about.  Maybe I can post on amibay a WTB a set of photos with measurements made with a caliper.  Is the key something a locksmith could duplicate if he had one as a reference?  Obviously a standard key cutting machine won't work, but I don't know what tools/blanks they may have.

So here comes the (now obvious to me) question, are all 3000T's keyed the same?

if you can find out who manufactured the lock. then you should be able to take to a locksmith and duplicate by lock brand and the number on the key in the pictures.
or have somebody take the key and have a locksmith copy. and send you the duplicate
most companys only used a few if only one key cut for most production locks...  like a lawn mower key..

Manufacturer and if possible the type number would be nice. My 3000T is completely lacking the lock. I would at least like to get rid of that empty hole in the front.

I'll pull the lock out and take the pictures with me to a locksmith to see what they can do.  I googled tubular keys and one of the images I saw looked almost identical to the keys, but they were for trailers.  Rhetorically, what would the odds be that a trailer key would happen to have the same code as the 3000T lock?  At least the blanks should be available.

I have found out that you don't have to find the original type of lock switch to replace the initial one. Although i built an A3000T replica based on an A1200, a felow Amigan asked me to send him a switch like the one i used, and he replaced the original with that one. And it worked!
By the way, you can see my replica project here:  http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?5456-A3000T-front-panel
Some pictures don't appear, i could only redirect so many from photobucket to postimg today... But the ones about the lock switch and panel are ok now.

Thanks for the info.  Fortunately, my 3000T came unlocked.  It would be nice to know if all 3000T locks are keyed the same though.  Having a keycode (from Kawazu's post) would be real handy if they were.
