Title: A1200 Floppy Drive
Post by: Astra Dan on January 17, 2018, 10:21:24 PM
Hi all.
My A1200 drive is poorly. It seems to think there's a disk inserted all the time and tries to read it. Obviously it fails and gives up. It may try to read this phantom disk randomly when it's switched on. It doesn't notice if I insert a disc.
I've taken the drive apart and cleaned it. The head seems to move OK when it powers on and resets.
I can see the two switches that determine write protect; does the drive use these to determine disk presence? I can't get continuity from it at all with a meter on any of it's 3 terminals.

Thanks for any advice.

Yeah, probably a bad switch. See if you can clean it.

@Astra Dan
As spaceman88 said, bad switch.

Here's a disassembly of a Chinon FB-354 style switch (http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?51952-Inside-a-Chinon-FB-354-7-switch&highlight=inside+chinon+switch), should be pretty similar inside yours.
