Title: Silly problem with Overscan prefs (skips values)
Post by: AdvancedFollower on December 29, 2017, 12:27:50 PM
So I need to set my Overscan setting for PAL Highres to exactly 705x282 because reasons.
However when I move the handles with the mouse, it skips every other value so I can only dial in 704 or 706. No matter how low I set the mouse sensitivity, it always skips 705.

Can I manually edit the Overscan.prefs file to get it to 705 pixels, or is there a third party overscan prefs program that allows you to type in values? I took a look at the Overscan.prefs file, but it's binary and I don't know which offset to edit.

I dont have an easy solution for you, but you have a solution you mentioned before:

Edit overscan.prefs.

To find out the right offset, just alter it one time to 704 and another one to 706, and only those parameters, save in both ocasions the resulting overscan.prefs file, and then compare both files. The changed values are the offset you are looking for.

Use filex from Aminet to edit the binary file.

Hummm. I tried it on my 3.9 A2000 and it also skips from 704 to 706. Maybe try versions of the overscan Prefs tool from other versions of the OS? Alternatively, perhaps there is some freeware or shareware overscan preferences editor that offers more control? Have you looked on Aminet?

I do belive screenmode values must always end with an even number.
