Title: Problems playing some modules and AHI config on my A1200
Post by: beltrixx on December 28, 2017, 07:22:55 PM
I have a desktop A1200 with a Microbotics 1230 accelerator and 128 Mb fast RAM. I'm trying to figure out the best settings for AHI on my system by using Paula (no soundcard installed). If I try to play .xm modules via Hippoplayer a get awful sounds, so I don't know if bad sound comes from hardware limitations or bad AHI / Hippoplayer setup ...

Are there any limitations on the type of modules which can be played on my system? which is the best module player?

These are the settings for my default "Music Unit" on AHI :

Paula 8 bit stereo ++
Frequency : 22050 Hz
Channels : Disabled
Volume : +0.0 dB
Monitor : Silent
Gain : +0.0 dB (locked)
Input : Parallel port sampler
Output : Line (locked)

If I cycle from Unit 0 thru 3 (don't know the real meaning for these) settings are :

Paula 8 bit stereo ++
Frequency : 22050 Hz
Channels : 8
Volume : +0.0 dB
Monitor : Silent
Gain : +0.0 dB (locked)
Input : Parallel port sampler
Output : Line (locked)

Which would be the suggested settings for my system in order to balance sound quality and overall system response?

Thanks in advance for the help ;)

why do you use AHI and not Paula directly ? I use Hippoplayer on my A1200 and got no sound problem (not sure if I ever played .xm though).

AHI v4.18 seems more gentle on systems which are not very powerful.
