Took the power supply package out of my A2000 to remove a leaky battery on the motherboard, rev6, a couple of days ago. Went to reassemble and test today and made a
(critical) error when plugging in the power supply, in that I moved the connector over by one pin to the left. Now when the machine goes to start up, I get the insert disk screen, BUT, there are white vertical stripes in the centre of the screen. See attached photo. To complicate the issue, I am not sure which way the 50 pin ribbon cable attaches to the A2091. Does the red mark on the cable attach to the top or bottom of the 2091 connector? The unit has a DKB wildfire 060 card in it that had a leaky capacitor some time ago, and damaged the card so that the SCSI does not work, hence the use of the 2091. The machine would boot prior to my little adventure, although it took 6 minutes to do so, but now all I get is the insert disk screen. This is with the red mark on the cable attached to the bottom of the 2091 connector.
Stupid, I know, but can anyone offer any suggestions, other than jumping in the lake?
Making progress. There is what appears to be a display enhancer connected to the Denise chip, and the connecter was not fully inserted into the socket, so now the lines have disappeared from the disk icon screen, but the machine will not boot.

The broken Wildfire 060 in this thread makes baby jesus cry. :( :( :( Maybe Acill or someone else can get that sorted out for you?
-
Not a complete loss ( I hope ) as the 060 was not in the loop when I did the test. It was working prior to the incident, so hopefully it's still OK. I'm concerned that the 2091 may now have an issue, as there is no activity in the drives, and I am not a tech, and have little knowledge about the inner workings of the computer.
Forgive my igorance, but whom is Acill ?

Gracias senor, will attempt contact.

You mean, you attached the SCSI cable just upside down? This will usually not do much, it just grounds all signal pins and then the machine will not find any SCSI device, but that is really all. Are you sure it is the right way around *right now*?
-
Yes, the red line on the SCSI cable is at the bottom. I have looked around on line and that appears to be the correct way to connect it, as it does bring up the insert disk animation on the screen in that position. Reversed it does nothing at all.
The one thing I am worried about was when I first attached the harness coming from the power supply to the motherboard, as I mentioned, i did not connect it properly, the jack was one pin over to the left of where it should have been, meaning that all the connections, other than the one that made no contact at all, were on the wrong pins.
I am concerned that perhaps the 2091 is now defective. I have two spare ones, but I will have to move the rev 7 chips from this card to another one, adjust the jumpers accordingly, and see if that makes a difference.
If that does not solve the problem, it may mean that the motherboard itself is now defective.
Yes, no, maybe?

PS: It is now going on 2 AM in Canada, so off to bed.
Thanks all for replying so far. Back on line soon.

I'd be happy to take a look at it all for you. It would have to be after the new year though. I will be in Italy from Dec 20th through the 1st of January.

Well, Buon Natale, Signore.
Can you give me an idea of your rates?
