I own an X5000 and the case I now have has no 5.25" bays. Looking for an external solution for reading and writing to CD/DVDs. Mostly just to rip MP3s from my CD collection.
Anyone successfully using an external USB CD/DVD drive with their AMiga OS 4.1 system? I have an X5K but guessing if you don't, but at least run AMiga OS 4.1FE, if it works for you via USB it should for me too.
Let me know make and model please if you have one that works.
Thanks

Just used it and reinstalled the Enhancer pack for testing. It loses power hooking it up to the USB connection on the front of the case but works fine directly from the motherboard on the back connections.
That's reading, I don't know about writing.

I can't seem to get it to stay powered on if it's connected directly to the USB ports, and the system has a 500 watt Power Supply. I've had to use a powered HUB.

I've got this one.

But, it keeps losing connection, even using a powered hub. I was using it on my A4000 Deneb with no issues.

Since I have tried 3 different brands.. is there something special one has to do, driver wise, to allow a USB CD/DVD to work under Amiga OS?
Maybe that is where my problem is. Maybe I need to put some special driver in Dev directory?

Thank you. I have a LG DVD arriving tomorrow that two others at the Hyperion Forum said worked for them. I hope it works for me too.

BTW, ASUS seems to be the main working int drive..
My attempts at lg's were hit and miss

Reinstalling the OS and moving the drive to the top back port seems to have fixed the power issue.
