Title: Help Assembling A2000
Post by: zonaps2 on November 03, 2017, 07:07:30 PM
I recently got an A2000 in non working condition and a bunch of cards.
I'm only owned an A500 to this day, so I'm a noob about Amiga cards, Hard disks, etc.
It had a dead PSU that I replaced with an ATX one.
The machine boots now, but I have stripped down all the cards in their slots.
I've tested one by one each card and they all seems to work.

The cards are:
Apollo 2030 Turbo
A2630
A2091
Catweasel Z-II S-Class
Cybervision64/3D
Buddha (not sure about model, I don't have the card here with me)

Questions:

-I see that the Apollo and the A2630 are both accelerators, which one should I use?

-Is the Catweasel capable of accepting large hard disks? I mean, the machine came with a Maxtor IDE drive 170mb, I think it has some bad sectors, Can I replace it with a more modern IDE drive? Like 40Gb. I'm asking this because it's easier to find newer HDs.

-What's the use of the Cybervision card? I see that it has like a VGA connector. What type of monitor should I use for this?

I'm looking for the best configuration I could make in the Amiga with these cards.
It also has a Mini Megi chip on it.
Kickstart ROM is 3.1

Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks

I would use the 2630 and the 2091 (instead of a scsi drive, get a scsi to sd device and a 4 gig sd card)
The cybervision is vga, use that for RTG, this really improves the Amiga experience.

Nice system!  I know at least for me, I love pouring over the technical details of hardware.  If you're unfamiliar with all those cards you might start here:

Have fun!  :)

Getting all that setup remotely is going to be a challenge.

Do this:

Install the A2630 CPU card, and the budha so you can use a small IDE drive on it. Find a CF adapter with a 4GB card. Install a basic 3.1 system and make sure its working well clean like that.

Start next with installing the cybercision and then install Picasso96 and get the RTG system up. That will require you to have a standard VGA monitor, but you will get no output until you setup Picasso96 properly, and even then games that directly boot will still need an amiga compatible monitor, so have two. One VGA on the Cybervision, one on the Amiga 2000 RGB out.

Once thts done you can add the other cards one by one as you discover what they are.

I agree with every one here. Great sounding system. The only thing I might add, is to get away 3.1 as soon as you can, can put 3.5 or 3.9 in for the OS. That will mean adding a CD/DVD ROM drive, but that's a simple addition.

Thanks for the help guys!

I was able to install workbench 3.9 with the A2630 + Catweasel, I even installed a CD drive!

I have this doubt, I see that the Apollo 2030 card is faster than the A2630, but I also had some crashes and reboots with it.

Is that why you suggest the A2630 over the Apollo? Or is there something I can do to fix the crashes, etc? Maybe the card is not 100% ok?

Now, I'm gonna try to install the Cybervision64/3D card, however I dont have the scandoubler module. Will any PC monitor work? Like an LCD?
