Title: Amiga PSU with accelerators
Post by: David Wright on October 25, 2017, 03:38:09 PM
I get that adding on accelerators or hardware can tax the power supply but why does my ACA 1232 in the A1200 not power up when plugged in but the Vampired A500 will?

Tried two psu's with the 1200 and accelerator and will not power up unless removed. The vampire doesn't mind at all.

It could be the 1232 is just not making good contact on the 1200 edge connector. When you say it doesnt power up, do you mean nothing at all or it just gives you a black screen? If its a black screen try reseating the accelerator. I have this same board on my 1200 test machine and it works fine with a stock PSU. I do have to play with it though in order to get it to boot up the machine. This seems to be a common thing with all the ACA accelerators I come accross.

Maybe you need to remove some caps.

You can read here about which on you need te remove on the Amiga 1200 motherboard:

I haven't use the  ACA 1232, but some accelerators on the A1200 can be inserted to far, and short against the metal ledge by the port.
Worth checking.....
