Title: Vampire and 4xEIDE'99
Post by: Motormouth on October 18, 2017, 04:07:37 AM
Has anyone tried using a 4xEIDE'99 with the vampire?

Probably easiest configuration that this could fit is in an vampire 500 with a cpu slot adapter in an A2000.

First does it work?
Second, Do you have to use the AllegroCDFS or can you use 3.9 CDFS or AsimCDFS?with it?

Are there any other issues, example is it slow (the buffering things cannot help with things like latency) etc.?

The Vampire does have 2 connectors but are they just a 40 & 44 pin or 2 controllers? never got an answer on Apollo forum.

The vampire 500 v2+ only has a 44 pin IDE and a microSD slot.
It will be interesting to see what the final V4 products have.

Looking at images of the preliminary vampire v4 standalone, it looks like it has both 40 pin and 44 pin.

I really was thinking about the vampire v500 v2+ in an a2000.

Probably won't be SATA ;)

Probably not but hope it has some DMA there.

I'm using EIDE99 with vamp in my A2000. Works fine with AllegroCDFS.  Speed seems acceptable. Haven't run any benchmark yet. Trying to solve  why Xsurf100 refuses to work. But I don't think it has anything to do  with EIDE.

If it bothers you, use a PATA to SATA adapter.
I've been using them in my Powermacs under MorphOS for a while now.
Its how I updated my DVD-RW drives to faster SATA units.

Very useful to know!!  I was thinking about getting one so that I can remove my scsi card.

As for Xsurf100.  I have my A2065 working with vampire so at least in theory an ethernet solution can work.  note:  I am using AmiTCP.  There was some work be done to make a Ethernet adapter for the microSD slot.  At least on youtube you can see it work, but not have seen anyone selling the adapters.  This might be a long term good solution in lieu of the Xsurf.

Additional cards I have tested, A2386, IVS Trumpcard pro, and A2058 with without any problems.  I have not tested any of the more exotic cards.

Interesting...my X-surf-100 refuses to work with my IDE controller on the 2000 as well (not a vampire, but, the IDE4Zorro2).  Every time I load up a TCP/IP stack, it locks the computer up when both cards are present.  Running X-surf-test does the same thing.  What revision motherboard do you have?

Well I have an Xsurf100 in my 2000 with RapidRoad USB working fine along with the vampire. I also have an ADSCSI board with 8MB of RAM on it and a CD-ROM drive working just fine, and I boot my system off the vampire using a 32GB CF card.

I have an 4xEIDE'99 in my A600 with my Vampire 600V2 and it works great.  CF card extended off one 40 pin connector and the secondary 40 pin goes to an IDE to SATA converter which I have hooked up to a CD-ROM drive.  Works perfect.

I have not done any speed tests but it works, and I'm thinking the A600 IDE is probably the bottleneck.

I have a 2nd one on order to use in my A2000 with Vampire 500V2+.  Just waiting for it to arrive.

@kirk_m,

The IDE4Zorro2 looks interesting. With the Vampire I won't be able to use a SCSI2 CDRW anymore, But where to find a Good White CDRW these days?

This is quite useful know.
Between you, SpeedH408, and JuMa is looks like the vampire's are  compatible  with the 4xEIDE'99 configured both the A600 IDE and is own IDE, in the case of the Vampire 500 V2+.

Why would you not be able to use a scsi2 cdrw with the vampire?  At least in the A500 or A2000 there are plenty of SCSI cards available.  I haven't use a CDRW, but my current A2000 configuration uses both the vampire's IDE and SCSI cdrom drive with  a trumpcard pro.   There were absolutely no configuration problems.

I was hoping to avoid FleaBay.
