Just get any 1.44 and use a tape to cover left hole :-)

HIGHLY recommend AGAINST this.  If you're using 880k (DSDD) drives use the proper disks otherwise you run the very real risk of losing data.

The quality of 1.44MB disks decreased drastically in the decade or so up to their final demise, which increased failure rates in proper drives let alone the magnetic flux issues with using HD in a DD drive.

You can find NOS around eBay.  I have amassed quite a stash, myself, and my consider parting with some of them soon... once I get to them (reorganizing the office... can't find my @ss with a spotlight right now.)

@punkyclown

Exactly as LoadWB said. HD disks have quite different coercivity from DD disks which makes writing them with a DD-profiled head generally unreliable, prone to corruption after some time.

You should have possibly a look at AmiBay, there are currently NOS Disks
for sale, 3,5" DD in blue or white. But your problem could be the shipping costs...
Search for user mainactor... ;-)

I did not experience it. Sure, I did not write like thousands of floppiness, but it all was fine.

BTW. I have device to make a DD floppy discs into HD :). It is literally a "hole cutter"! People were doing things like this about 25 years ago.

Here it is, conversion of DD to HD floppy. How many of you knew about THIS ;).

Neat!

I had the one for making double sided 5.25" disks.  Just like this, the blue one:

Of course probably everyone on this forum had one of those at some point.  Think I still have mine in a box somewhere.  ;)

Just because it somewhat works doesn't mean it's the right thing to do or that it will always work. Notched or taped disks used for different formats than they where intended for fail much quicker than regular due to the different material used.

I suggest you read this: http://www.retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/guzis.html
