I'we got an 3000 tower I want to sell, is there any value in this old hardware?
It was about 20years ago I last started it, and if I remember right there is 10mb of ram 100mb hard drive and a network card installed. I think I have a mouse and keyboard also but no monitor.
-
Quick answer, yes.
More detailed answer, it depends on several things.
1. Is the motherboard battery still in place? Is it leaking? If so, that will definitely reduce the value of the computer.
2. Does it even boot up? BIG affect on value.
3. Which version is it? 3000T/030 or /040, or 3500? That's usually found on a sticker on the back panel. IF I remember correctly.
4. Where are you located? If I remember correctly, that thing weighs a TON! Shipping could be quite painful.
As far as a monitor, it has vga output so just about any standard PC monitor will work with it. Just make sure the 15KHz/31KHz switch is set to 31. So you can at least set it up and see if it works and what you have.
That's my 2 cents. Anyone else want to chime in?
Oh, BTW, if someone tells you it's absolutely worthless and you should just give it to them, laugh at them and walk away.
-
It does have some value as Curtis mentioned, but depends on who wants it an where it needs to go. It will cost a lot to ship it properly so its not damaged. It also depends as mentioned on the condition of the insides. If a battery was left in and it hasent been used its a good chance its eaten itself from acid leaks.
Please get in touch. If we could work out a deal I would love to take a look at it, or even just give it a good look for you and have it running again if I can.

It's worthless, but I'll give you $1 for it.

:p..sounds like Mike used to sell used Oldsmobiles
@ LarsF
if you're in the US I'd take up Acill's offer as it'll fetch you a pretty penny if it's in good working order

LarsF it's worthless, it's actually worse than worthless it has negative value. Because the... the government see they they said all unused Commodores have hazardous substances in them and have to be recycled properly, thankfully I dispose of these hazardous substances. Normally I require a fee to do this but since you have an honest face I'll pay for shipping.

Don't sell it, not yet. Restore it if needed (Acill), use if for a sometime and when you "hit the wall" THEN post here or Amibay.com.
There is plenty of people who would use it.

I think I'll be the only one to give you a real number.
I sold mine at Amiwest2016 for $200.
no shipping involved and the buyer saw it running.
He bought add-ons at the show and was a happy camper!
-
You will sell it easily. The sad truth is that i've spend around 400%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8364; to make my A600 to be something similar to an a3000 (Furia, indivision, PCMCIA internet, and so on). And after all this inversion is working unstable as %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!.
I hope someday you oldies let the youngsters to take over :hammer:
EDIT: Depending on your location, I may be interested

@amiadudeorwat
I think a winky smiley is needed to indicate you are joking otherwise everyone will just think you're an opportunist vulture!
-
Hopefully, he chimes back in. I would honestly like to take a look at it so it can be tested and tuned up well and if he is indeed interested in selling it give him a fair price for it when the time comes.
-
I would be interested if it were driving distance in the southeast US...? Shipping would be horrendous for a 3KT though :)

I just didn't want another A3000T dropped off at some playground. Next thing you know the kids will be taking it apart and having a good old custom chip fight until someone catches an Agnus in the eye.
-
He probably just wanted to test the waters on its value. I cannot blame him/her. It would be interesting to see it is on Fleabay in a couple days.
That being said I agree with klx300r, I do hope someone like Acill gets an opportunity to check it out.

As the multitudes have stated, it has value. I think it is quite possibly my favorite form factor of the Amigas. I'm in California, USA. If you are in the hereabouts, and it works, let me know what you wanting and/or if you are interested in any other hardware; Amiga or otherwise that might start some trading. Actually, scratch that, does "ladies first" apply here? ;)
-
When I was in college a number of people had the Amiga 3000T with AMIX. The 3070 and a CD drive mounted just fine inside the tower. It was a nice design from Commodore. It was heavy but solid.

Thanks for your answer
I have to check battery and if its booting, the processor is a 030
I located in Sweden, yes its quite heavy so shipping is not an option.

No PM, I guess I live quite far away, and shipping i guess costs a fortune.

I always thought the design was a bit severe, too PC like and industrial. The regular pizza box A3000 case is so much more cute ;-)
I much prefer the soft lines of the C= A4000T case with the beautiful smokey plastic window ;-) Shame it wasn't practical for ESCOM/AT to use the original bezel design.
-
The A3000T should have been more like this (without the Intel Inside sticker :-():

If it works, some of us crazy enough and may be willing to pay the shipping. Further, I am sure you could also find a European buyer.
I think that most of us would probably agree that the A3000T and/or A4000T are the most desirable amigas to acquire.

I sent you a message to get in touch with John Hertell in Sweden. He is also someone that would love to take a look at it and get it working if it has problems. I am sure he would also be willing to make an offer on it.

You can tell from you pictures that the A3000T is the 68030 version (ie no 3640 processor card) and is has the original 2.0 roms
I would immediately check to see if the battery was removed........
Also what happens when you attempt to boot to 0 - Amiga?

The battery is still there looking ok. Did not found my keyboard .... I think it s some software emulatipn of 3.1 Roms installed.
-
The A3000T prototype case looks nice with clean lines and nice C= grill design! The machine was sold in 2015.

I would still consider removing the battery, or taking it to someone to remove it, and putting a coin cell adapter in it. Also if you post a few more pics, particular of the motherboard and expansion cards and maybe run whichamiga or sysinfo and post more information.
I think you could get alot "more" of interest.... ;)
I say more because we are all interest in it :)

I can't find the keyboard so I don't get past the boot message.... I will try to borrow a keyboard. I will add some more internal pictures of mb and the network card.

The battery does look like it is starting to leak, I would get that removed as soon as possible. Then I would ship it to the USA to sell it to me. Other than the rust on the bottom part of the case it looks very clean. I am terribly jealous.
-
Yup, get that battery out of there! It's starting to leak but doesn't look too bad yet - I think you caught it just in time.

So, What did you end up doing with this A3000T?
-
Unless you find someone locally you should consider shipping it - depending on the price of the A3000T I think shipment cost is no problem for a buyer.
The A3000T is one of the last Amiga's I don't have in my collection - but you're 885km away from my location (Denmark), so pickup is not an option for me.

I have some discussion with a member here where shipment is involved
-
OK let me know if it gets available again.

Shipping has to be insane across the Atlantic!
