Title: Strange Fonts or Data Corruption on OS4.1FE
Post by: Acill on September 08, 2017, 06:06:18 AM
I've suddenly got these strange fonts showing up on window title bars. It also shows up in some browser windows, in some file requesters. Any Ideas here? This is on my X5000. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary for these to show up.

I also have the volume requester showing up when I try to use the updater from the latest enhancer 1.3 pack my machine came with.

Any solutions or where to start? If I wanted to just install OS4.1FE clean on this how would I do it? Its starting to feel like I got a lemon here or a bad install.

If you want to format and reinstall the os.. just boot from the pre-release cd. Follow the prompts.
Don't forget to use quick format.
It's also a good time to choose size of partitions and the file system. NGFS is the recommended.

If you haven't burned a copy yet.. It might help to register with Hyperion and download the AmigaOS 4.1 Final Ed update 1. and burn that version. Unless, of course, your dealer supplied you with that official version.

It then would be easy to install Enhancer 1.3.. but really read the prompts to understand what you get to choose.

@Acill

that's bizarre. in the eight years i've been using AOS4 systems -- including beta testing the X5000 -- i've never seen anything like that. you might consider posting on support.amigaos.net (http://support.amigaos.net) as well, if you haven't already. i'm sorry you're having such issues for what, at least for me, has been a wonderful machine. good luck! :)

Amigakit is sending me a restore USB drive with my radeonHD drivers on it and sfs/02. It seems with NGFS this has been seen before. So I will just wait for that to get here. Hopefully, that will fix all this. In the meantime its just a nuisance.

Does this mean you don't have the install cd or iso?
Surely, you have your x5000/ hyperion serial number to register.
Then just download the iso and burn your own cd.

I like and use NGFS. but, SFS is now part of the release in Enhancer Package... so are the Radeon drivers

I have it and can log into the hyperion site, just not the forums.

I did a reinstall and things are fine for now. Not sure what was happening.

I just got my X5000 from AOTL and got this issue too. How did you fix it?

He did  a re-install and that cleared up the issue!

I don't understand how something like this can make it past quality control. Then again we've got folks putting out boards with missing GND planes, so I suppose anything's possible.

I found out what caused this issue.

It seems to be using the Timezone preferences and Locale. Somehow it messes up the language in Locale and you have to clear it. And it seems to happen on a fresh install when you have to change the time settings.
