Hi,
My 4000/040 has died and I need someone who can fix it here in the UK. Has
anyone any knowledge about repairers? Is it possible to get a new 68040 cpu?
thanks in advance

Depends what's wrong with it. What makes you think it's the 68040 chip, specifically? Most often on an A4000 your problem is going to be caps, or battery leakage, etc.
In any case, try Acill, Castellen, and other members of this forum. There's a ton of threads on this subject already. Good luck! :)

You could ask Amigakit; they are in Wales.

Highly recommend getting in touch with AmigaKit.

I'd highly recommend NOT getting in touch with AmigaKit...!
Send bebek a message. He might be on here, he's definitely on eab and Amibay.

Or Chucky, though he is in Sweden.

Here are a couple of good links to the A3640 cap problem.

What do you mean by it is dead? Was it working and now won't power on, or power comes on but just black screen? Can you be more specific? The 040 board typical issue is the caps, usually the CPU itself is fine. Another thing is that the connector isn't all that great also try reseating the board and before reseating it when you separate the board from the MB clean the contact connectors as well.

To answer that last question. There are no new 68040 CPUs being made.
For a while now.

I just recently raised mine from the dead. Needed new caps on the 040 board, a little cleanup and a new HDD. Replaced the HDD with a 4GB C.F. card from Amigakit ($29 after shipping to U.S.). After caps cleaned 040 card connector, RAM connectors and fixed a few bare traces. Now she runs super fast and stable with OS 3.9 and is beautiful :)

I've got this 68040 that I salvaged at work. Some old stuff was ready to go in the electric waste, and I noticed that one of those cards had that cpu onboard. So I snapped it just in case it might get useful one day, and had it in a drawer since.
Its a MC68040RC25, and I wouldnt mind giving it to someone that really needs it.

I have seen many caps leak on A3640 boards and eat a trace that runs under the cap. Its pretty rare to see a 040 cpu die.this will give black/ no boot screen.
Several caps on the a3640 were installed backward and needs correcting anyway.
I'm guessing you have reseated the board and verified its plugged in all the way?
