I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with a plipbox (stops working after a few web page loads). I'm running OS3.9 and therefore I tried using Genesis with the plipbox. Lafalla's instructions indicate that DHCP isn't supported so I needed to use static addresses.. no problem, I assigned it 192.168.1.236. After running into issues with it not working after a few web pages (have to power down both Amiga and plipbox to get it to work again) I loaded MiamiDX. I followed Lafalla's instruction which indicated DHCP was supported but when after bringing the plipbox interface online, I discovered that when I ran miamiifconfig eth0: I got 192.168.1.236 as an IP address (same as the static from Genesis settings). If, after a power down, I don't load purposely load Genesis GUI, does it do anything (i.e., is there some routine that loads the AmiTCP/Genesis configuration on startup and assigns eth0: its static address?)
It might be that I have a smart enough router to feed the plipbox a DHCP-requested IP address equal to the static one I had used (would assume it had it in its ARP table) but I want to know if there is any issue with having both Genesis and MiamiDX on the same computer?

There's no problem having them both installed. Just don't start either of them automatically on startup and you'll be fine (they aren't configured to be started automatically by default, if they do, it's something you've configured yourself and should know how to disable).
My bet is also that maybe your router did remember the old IP when using DHCP... I rarely use DHCP so I don't know if that's common or not, but most likely scenery IMHO.
I have several TCP/IP stacks installed on my systems, and only thing you need to notice, is that Roadshow has bsdsocket.library as a file while others create it dynamically to memory. So, if you plan to have Roadshow and any other stack installed, remember to rename the file out of use when starting another stack and back in use when using Roadshow.

ok with both on same machine.
DHCP can be flakey on miamidx. might set it static to be safe.
Dont forget to enter dns's in miami if you havent in database/dns servers i think(if they are missing many times u can ping a numeric ip like 8.8.8.8 but not get to http://www.google.com) for example.

Had to dust off the cob webs that were built up on this account. ;)
I had issues with MiamiDX and DHCP. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. I got around this by typing in a random MAC address into MiamiDX. After that, DHCP would always work.

Thats weird i never had any problems with Miamidx dhcp on all kinds of setups..

I run them both from an icon on the desktop and have never had any issues to be honest.
