Title: Terminal Program for Vampire 500v2
Post by: SaludaLabs on July 25, 2017, 11:56:09 PM
I am looking for the RS232 Terminal program that would can use the HDMI output on the Vampire card.   I got NCOMM to work on the RGB out, but would love to have that works with the RS232.

I plan on doing Packet radio and the WifiRS232 (telnet bbs) with the program.

Is there a way to config NCOMM or is there something nicer out there?

Thanks David

I am sure there must be.

It has been a while since I used NCOMM, but does it not allow you to open up on a public screen or set up a P96 screen on its own?

Anyways, I use these two quite a lot, also on Workbench with Vampire...

Btw - something that kinda baffles with me with everyone showing off Vampire on Youtube - not once have I seen anyone use ModePro, which allows you to promote programs to use P96 screens instead of native PAL/NTSC screens. For example Sysinfo, AIBB etc work just as fine on P96 screen modes.

Perhaps "Term" opens on a public screen? I am sure one of the terminal programs that I used to use does. Sooo many years ago though...

Or this other one.  ;)

Thanks checking the video out now.  I have been off the Amiga since 1994, taking a little bit to get back in sync....

Just try out New Mode, found no option to use P96.   Reading one of the other boards they clam modepro is not stable.  That was from a year ago, I will see if is still unstable.

You need to have P96 installed in order for the screenmodes to show up.  ;)

I don't know anything about the Vampire HDMI output, but I assume it uses some kind of Amiga screenmode for its display, correct?  If you go into the regular Workbench Screenmode Prefs program, what shows up in the list?

The OS is called ApolloOS which is a 32 gig image you can download.  I believe ApolloOS is 3.9.

P96 appears to be installed.  I did not see the regular Workbench Screenmode Pref program.  I did find the Picasso96Mode, The setting in there is SAGA, with Modes: TrueAlpha 37hz 50hz active.    I will play with it some more this weekend.

Hummm. I don't think I would like that at all. You mean someone can't just stick a Vampire in their system and then install "regular 3.9", perhaps with some updated math libraries, or the like? Perhaps that's a question for a different thread. ;)

How legal do you think this "ApolloOS" is? :)

NComm opens an 8 color screen so try Term instead and make sure there is a 256 color mode in P96 prefs.

The regular screen modes can be accessed in prefs using the MUIscreenmodes app fount in there. Its just like the standard 3.9 one.

This will not be an issue soon once they release the GOLD3 core. Also this "ApolloOS" is full of things that require GOLD3 and should even be used yet. I have no idea why the guy that released it has done it.

Thanks for the info.  That is good to hear about the ApolloOS, I was wondering since I had to fix and modifying some items..

Not at all, on the other hand most Amiga users probably own OS3.9 already.
Second since it's not supported anymore or updated for ages I can't blame somebody put an updated OS3.9 out there on the net.

To get a only half decent config from base install is a lot of work, as i know because i have made my own vampire install from scratch.
I find that a nice thing to do (part of the hobby) but i can imagine a lot ppl don't.

Also, for packet radio - check out AmiCom http://ftp://ftp.aminet.net/comm/misc/AmiCom.lha by Gerhard Loder DL3MGQ.

It's system friendly so should work with whatever workbench screenmode you prefer :)

At least I think that's the correct link (difficult to be sure without downloading).  I thought aminet would be back up by now...

I would not be so sure about that, considering that not that many A500 and A600 systems were running OS3.9 before.

The funny part here is that the Apollo project now appears to have its own operating system, which in reality is a pirate OS3.9 distro. It makes them very vulnerable, and even attractive for legal actions. They may even risk the deal they have about the modified kickstarts that Vampire cards ship with.

Anyways, potentially lots of fun drama on the amiga boards in the time coming

Ain't gonna happen. Nobody has EVER shown a document showing transfer of copyright outside of Commodore.

It could equally be argued that 3.9 is itself a pirate distro, funded by the now defunct Escom, and as everybody concerned is a pauper, the lawyers and courts will not care.

No loss = no case

Thanks I will install AmiCom this weekend.  First I got to fix my Beam antenna in the morning.

I do not think the Apollo project is part of the Apollo OS distro.  Not sure who is behind that.

Clearly it is the San Fran based company Weebly :)
