Interesting blog on Majsta.com on the troubles he is being put through trying to sell Vampires on eBay.
http://majsta.com/
I thought I might share.
-
I believe Majsta is hurt by the fact that there are people vile enough to try and take income away from someone in such a vile way. This is a very small part of his sales so his success will be his response.
-
Unbelievable. He ought to just go to Amibay and post it there, instead.
-
If / When I order, it will be from source. No parasites leaching off the profit.
Snag with Amibay is, they're demand geolocation by electronic means before you can post - true for buyers as well as sellers.
I'm sure they have good reasons for doing that, but it doesn't help smooth selling of new products, rather than vintage gear in short supply.

Amibay has strict TOS. *Very* strict, some would say. Still probably wouldn't hurt to sell them there... weren't they being sold there originally? Back when the project first started?
Also, this thread cleaned up nicely. :quickdraw:

I've never had an issue with my listings on eBay.
Sounds like someone is screwing with him.
Kolla, maybe? ;-)

i dont think so. and lets not throw accusations around except backed up with something worthy.

Sounds like someone is screwing with him.
Sounds like somebody who has OCD regarding Amiga nostalgia...
... which doesn't exactly narrow the field of suspects.

From the OP link:
my account on E-bay is suspended yesterday, consequences are huge because this harms my reputation there and rights to buy certain components we need for cards production.
If I read this correctly then, it also affects production of cards to some degree, no?

That wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
His posts are a constant stream of negative BS, but I don't think he'd feel the need to do something in secret.
But it does sound like someone is being malicious.

Since he's setting up distribution with at least one vendor, maybe he could just tell eBay to go fvck itself? The whole thing just sounds ridiculous, and considering eBay's pulling 10% of the sales of his hard work which infringes nothing, eBay should just fvck off.

It could also be another ebay seller trying to get revenge. For some time Majsta was very active in reporting other people selling Vampires for gross profits. Apparently he many listings pulled. It could just be one of those people trying to hurt him back.
I think this is my opinion on this but I'm not certain it really is or is the right opinion. I understand his reasons for going after the other sellers but I don't think it was the best choice. Complain on his blog as much as he wants but I think going after the other sellers just set himself up for this kind of response. Tick off people enough times and eventually they will strike back. I don't think he should have worried about it. He had already made his money on the original sale. What people do with it after buying it really is out of his control.
Does the reselling have the feeling of something morally wrong? Perhaps. But is it actually wrong? We've had many conversations here making fun of some eBay auctions and seem to always come to the conclusion that, while ridiculous, if someone is willing to pay a ridiculous price, they will. That's one of the ideas behind the secondary market. I don't have to like it, Majsta obviously doesn't like it, but that's the way it is.
I'm still not sure that that will be my opinion after sitting down and thinking about it for a while, but it's the first thing that came to mind. Regardless, now we're in the situation of it possibly taking even longer than before to get Vampires produced and sold. If Majsta becomes unable to affordably get needed parts, production may halt.
Majsta has gotten more than his share of flack from people against the project. Could this be the attack that pushes him over the line and just wash his hands of the entire project? I don't know but I think I would understand if it does.

@thread
either way, it's unfortunate. these vampire cards are the best things to happen to amiga in a long time. and the team don't deserve having this kind of nonsense thrown at them (IMO, of course).

I don't know where the idea that restrictions on your seller account would affect your ability to buy came from, but think about it...its basically nonsense.
Even if your account was suspended, eBay doesn't track who is buying an item, or place restrictions on who you can sell to.
If there was a problem...you'd just buy it with a different account.
It's a bogus argument.

Doesn't take much thought to reach that conclusion, does it?
The upsetting part is that it's probably someone in the Amiga community that has a problem with the project.
It's f'ing silly.

Agree. But I think the problem with eBay is that it is automated to the max. Which is fine for smooth transactions. But if someone wants to f... with you that's automated too. Unravelling the mess is only semi automated as it requires human intervention.
I think it was Kesa.

This is true. eBay's policies have taken a very blanket, hands-off approach to the system. While most likely a matter of scale, it can be rather harsh and unfriendly, not to mention quite uninformed.
We all know of a number of bogus listings which keep reoccurring like bad rash or psycho ex, yet here we are.

I tried amibay, it was a scammer. I wouldn't buy from anyone on there again.

That sucks. I've had nothing but good experience there.

Likewise. I think it's a tremendous site.

Count your blessings. I'm blacklisted before I even posted anything.
Thank you Amigan Mafia. Anytime I get that spare A1000 keyboard operational, I know where I WON'T be selling it.
-
I sold an A1200 keyboard on Amibay yesterday and then noticed the money wasn't in my account this morning because I'd made a typo in my email address when communicating with the buyer.
I Sent the keyboard in good faith considering that it was my mistake and messaged the buyer to cancel the transaction and send it the correct address.
I Got in this evening and checked Amibay and he'd sent the money and also asked me to confirm that I'd got it for his own peace of mind.
I expect that most people there would behave the same way so you should not tar everyone with the same brush due to a bad experience.
