Hey guys, I'm a commercial director in the Los Angeles area and I'm looking for Trevor's contact info. I've been a silent fan of Amiga for a very long time and even deliberated buying the x1000 a year ago and finally took the plunge and bought an x5000 a few days ago after watching the latest documentary and just following Trevor's adventures. Didn't fully understand how vibrant the community was and would like to help make it more relevant in any way I can.
I am filming two spots on the 11th of July for Spike TV and one of them is specific to a break-in into a high security facility that needs a computer where one of our main characters is hacking into. I think having the X5000 in that shot would be amazing and it could be a really nice piece to highlight Amiga after all these years.
My site is http://www.charlespaek.com
If any of you know Trevor's email please let me know or let him know that I'm interested in placing the x5000 as a product placement piece in the commercial with A-eon's and Hyperion's permission of course.

You could send a support message at the Ad on web site or trybthe user Amigakit here. The later would pass it on as he is a partner.
-
Thanks, just sent an email to them. Let's see if they respond.

@ cpaek72
great idea & I know I'm biased;) but I would personally make sure I got a 'Boing Ball' cover case for the commercial as it stands out proudly from a standard 'pc' case ...if you can find a modded Boing Ball case like mine see here http://mancave-ramblings.blogspot.ca/2016/ even better :hammer:
guaranteed non amigans and especially Amiga enthusiasts will notice the "Boing Ball' case :)
-
That's very true. The case that is offered by Amigakit is black on black logo. I'm sure I can have our art department figure out a way to highlight that. Not receiving my x5000 for at least 10 days, but I'm hoping they can send an extra one just for the commercial sooner.

Hi cpaek72,
Sounds exciting. You can contact me directly at contact(AT)a-eon.com.
Thanks to everyone who contacted me to let me know about cpaek72's request.

awesome & I'm sure you agree on the Boing Ball case:)
@ Charles
please don't forget to update us here :hammer:
-
Yes, if the timing all works out, I'll post the spot here in a few weeks :)
-
That is awesome!
-
Awesome indeed :)
Would be great if the spot actually shows a working OS4 environment and perhaps a legible 'Amiga' text on there :) I'm sure someone on here would be able to help you should you need to mock-up some UI action.
-
Very cool! Looking forward to seeing it!
-
@cpaek72
What would something like that cost?
-
Oh, the commercial? It's in the hundreds of thousands range. Not cheap to film a commercial.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing your completed project.
Trevor, are you going to make a cameo? ;)

Well I still remember the huge mistake Commodore made of the Star Trek film where they wanted Amiga's but Commodore said no.

Commodore made alot of stupid decisions.
-
For some reason I'm unreasonably excited about this

Love to see this.

Which one was that?

@Themamboman
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) (http://starringthecomputer.com/feature.html?f=4)

@Thread
At least the Amiga got pride of place in City Slickers in 1991!
It's not really Jurassic Park or Star Trek though is it? Wasted opportunities. Even Atari fot the Portfolio in Terminator 2. There should be a special sin bin reserved for Commodore's marketing team / consultants. Muppets.

They probably had insider informations the computer cameo makes it looking dumbass...
And infacts Macintosh in the movie made no great appearance looking ancient and obsolete for 24th century.
On the other side the movie production already used Amigas for Special Effects even if uncredited. I spotted Garnet Font in the Supercomputer from Vulcan that Spock uses to train the logic!
-
Guys, hold onto your excitement just a bit longer. Haven't received confirmation if the powers at be will be able to send an x5000 yet. I would rather get one from a retailer willing to give it up for marketing purposes, because I don't want to be held responsible if it gets damaged during the shoot, especially if it's from a fellow amigan. Crossing fingers...
-
@Raffaele
No it just shows they were morons. They would have had exposure of theAmiga being a representation of what computers were capable of in 1986! Now they ARE voice controlled via Siri etc which is STILL an Apple product. No Commodore because NO forward thinking!!

Guys, anyone want to help design the wallpaper desktop to feel like a nsa computer? Something black and sleek? Needs to feel modern and original. Also need some sort of script that will scroll some sort of script that looks like a hacking sequence. Let me know your thoughts. A-eon is working hard to get a system to us.

However, there was the Commodore PET 2001 in Admiral Kirk's apartment in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. :)
Too expensive when it was auctioned off,

I think it's worth asking Trevor if the A-EON developer team can come up with something since they have artist and programmers who should be able to make something that fits your requirements.
The Ringhio progress bar and animation features could be put to good use alongside scrolling text and whatever else makes for a good hacking sequence.

You can change the shell so the background is black and have whatever colour you think looks best for the text. You can also adjust the transparency of active and windows which will make things look better.
Is there the opportunity to slip some A-EON Technology branding on the background of the computer screen to suggest that is the name of the company being hacked or do you not have the flexibility to do that?
-
Showing specific branding is up to legal, though Trevor is getting us a release from A-eon and Hyperion, I'll try my best to shoot enough footage to get options for the client. The one thing really going for us is that the creative director I work with on all these spots loves the vintage vibe and is going to really love the idea of having an Amiga to shoot it with. I'm going to shoot various options so that we get the full view of the computer as well as closeups of the OS and legal will have to decide of what we can and can't show with the release from Trevor. One thing for sure is that it won't look anything like Windows and Mac OS which actually works in our favor. That's why I want to really create a background and look that feels original and doesn't swing so close to someone in legal saying we can't use it.
-
So long as there is a rotating boing ball somewhere on screen! ;-)
-
I just saw this! Very cool!

@ cpaek72
Turned out nice! Congrats. What did your actors think of the prop? :)
-
well the scene cut happens so fast that all you can see is a big black box only, can't even tell there's a faint boing ball on it  should have been a white case with a nicely painted red boing ball that would have screamed out to all Amiga fans within a milisecond IMHO
-
klx300r
you really think its tolerable to smuggle an obvious product placement into someone elses commercial?

in this case yes as i'll guarantee you this commercial wasn't trying to sell anything computer related ;) not to mention the fact that the OP himself involved in the making of the commercial wanted to see an Amiga in the commercial :-)

You can see it clearly at 24/25 secs.
-
@ Kremlar
'clearly' is a bit far stretched but if you pause the vid and have a close look I agree you can sort of see it IF you are looking for it. See the link in post 4 of this thread if you want to see what obviously and 'clearly' is AMIGA.
-
Oh please, why must Amigans always complain??!!!
Be happy somebody went through all this trouble to put an x5000 in a mainstream ad in the first place. I really like the result. They only thing I don't understand, what is the ad for? :) Is it for a TV show on the Spike channel, for a hairdresser like Amiga-news.de claims,...
-
It's great that an Amiga got used for this... but I've gotta say that unless I'd read this thread and knew what was coming there would be no chance of recognising it as an Amiga! It just looks like a generic black computer.

Looks like a Co-sponsored ad for Supercuts "Hair cuts" and maybe a new show on Spike TV.
Supercuts for sure.

In the first episode of the first season of the mid 2000's spy/comedy/romance TV series "Chuck" his home computer is stolen by an enemy agent - all throughout the fight scene where she steals it she keeps swinging it around. It is an aluminum case (like the Mac Pro of the day) but it clearly has a red-and-white checkered boing ball logo on the front. I loved seeing that :)
