Hi
Silly question but running 2.05 on a 600HD what is the way to adding more monitors and subsequent screen resolutions. With 2.05 there is no DEVS drawer and no monitor section. I have seen some installs with monitor drawers. How do I add a monitor and or screen resolution so that I get options in prefs for say multiscan and different monitors.

Somehow I never ended up using 2.0x - went straight from 1.3 to 2.1. I've seen this written up in the 2.0x Workbench manuals but can't remember the answer because I never put it into practice. In short: download one of the 2.0x-era manuals from one of the usual Amiga manuals repos.

I'm guessing it should be like 2.04, so there should be a Monitors drawer inside Workbench. If it's not there it may have been accidentally dragged into one of the other drawers. Failing that, copy it over from one of the 2.05 OS disks. As for adding monitors, all you should need to do is drag which ever ones you want into the Monitor drawer and they will be ready to use by Prefs after a reboot. Or, just double click the monitor driver wherever it is to test it out with Prefs in that session.

I have literally hundreds of Workbench disks and it puzzles me that I do not own, anywhere, the install disk for 2.1. I have many copies of 2.1 disks but not the 2.1 install. I have been searching all week and this morning found a 2.1WB install and I got very excited. Then found out when I bunged it in the 4000 that it was some crappy game and the guy had overwritten the disk. The search continues. I even try Ebay with no luck.
I must have it somewhere.

I have no idea why, but the disk I have does not have the monitors in the Monitor Store drawer or the Monitor drawer. Anyway I went on the hunt and pulled out the original disks and you are correct there should be a Monitor drawer and Monitor Store drawer. Inside the Monitor store drawer there is the Multiscan, plus two others. So I just placed them in the Monitor drawer and rebooted and they are there working for me.
Little tip, do not try to use the monitors from the OS3 disk. That would be bad. I did that and then the 600 refused to boot. Instead it filled the screen with scrolling load errors.. Endless.
My problem with 2.05 is that the procedure for setting up monitors and datatypes isn't that clear. I try to fire up a simple picture in DOpus and it states that can't support the screen mode or something. They are IFF images. I'll sort it but looks like 2.1 would be the answer. I could simply copy the drawers and files over, but I think I'll wait till I can get hold of a 2.1 install disk and then I can set up the DEVS drawer. Need that so bad.

Hi
OK So still on the hunt for a 2.1 Install disk and I opened up an Amiga 600 box and hooked up what I thought was a pretty basic Amiga 600. First oddity is that it had a working internal hard drive. It did not boot to an AmigaDOS screen which meant probably 2.1 and I was getting quite excited.
The machine launched straight into DOpus and so had a user-startup. There was no Workbench or System2.0 drawer just Main and Work . The Workbench looks like Version 3.0 which is odd. What is more strange is that while it has the 37.300 Kickstart which is typical for a 600 with HD and running 2.1 the Workbench version is showing as ' 34.27 '. If you recall 2.04 is 37.67 and 2.05 is 37.71 and 2.1 is 38.36 ... so ' 34 ' takes you way back and isn't even a common Workench. Also the startup-sequence identifies the version as 39.9 (9.8.82) which is actually the one for OS3.0 on the A1200. The startup for 2.1 is 38.22 (24.4.92). 2.05 doesn't have a version in startup.
I fired up SnoopDOS cus the Prefs icons do not work and when you click any of the Prefs icons SnoopDoS reckons nothing is happening. So its a busted OS.
I am guessing the drive was prepped using A500 WB somehow and then OS3.0 WB was simply dragged over. Just so strange. It really is pretty useless as it stands without any of the functionality of the WB. I mean the ROM isn't suitable so its confused. The ROM is the 2.0 37.300 so again I need to install 2.1. I guess I could just drag the files over from Locale, Fonts, Extras and Workbench and backup the old. Worst I could do is have to put it all back I guess.
Scratching head.

All done. Simply copied the contents of the four disks over and adjusted acordingly. So I have 2.1 working now on the 600 and have the DEVS drawer which basically answers my original issues raised. So I'm good to go.
Thanks for reading.
