I just set up my Amiga 1000 which has been languishing in the garage for about 25 years. Sad to say it would not boot. Just click, click, click. The monitor is fine. Also have an external 1010 drive, also kaput. Have all the original disks as well as some other programs (Final Copy II, Deluxe Paint, Deluxe Video, One -on-One, The Music Studio, Video Vegas, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy). I have the original Amiga boxes as well. I am in Boulder, CO. If there's an Amiga lover in the area, I'm happy to give it away for free. If there's nobody local, I'd be willing to ship it, if you can pick up the cost. I have one request. I have about 40 floppys that have screenplays, journals, various other things I wrote (mostly using either Textcraft or Final Copy). I'm wondering if it would be possible, as an exchange, to convert those files into something readable on a PC, using either Word or Google docs. I have no idea if it's possible or how time consuming it would be, but if you're interested in that as an exchange let me know. One interesting anecdote about this Amiga. I purchased it in 1986 at a small shop in Grenada Hills, CA. The owner claimed that his shop was the first in CA to receive the Amiga and that I was the first to buy it, so it's possible that this is the first Amiga 1000 ever sold in CA. At least that's how I remember it :).

I'll pay for shipping and convert the files to a readable format.

If Iggy doesn't want it, I'll pay packing/shipping costs and can convert the floppies for you as well. Just lemme know.

If that doesn't pan out, I have an A1000 that I'm not using.

No problem, it's been sitting in a box in my lab since we moved two years ago. I'll ensure it's intact tonight and will PM you tomorrow.

Thanks. I'll give it a couple of days to see if I get any local takers. If not I'll get in touch and we can figure out the logistics.

Cool. I just like the look of it (reminds me of a Sun pizza box).
And I won't gut it, rather I'd clean it up as best as possible and return it to its best possible original condition as a display of the first commercially available multimedia PC.
A real conversation item.

Arguable. The term "Multi-media" is older than the microcomputer, about 1966 or so.
Even then it was wrong in the first place and breaks the rules of English. "Multimedium" is correct, "Multimedia" is really a tautology.

Talk to SACC if you need an A1000! I am sure one can be located. Especially if it doesn't have to be a working one since you just want the case.

I am from Fort Collins, Colorado but I can't bring myself to take it. If you need help with the files, I may be some help. Let me know if you need my assistance.

You make a good point.

If you don't have a taker yet, we are the Clark County Commodore Computer Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. We have an upcoming show, the Commodore Retro Expo which will be held on July 28th-30th at the Alexis Park Resort here in Las Vegas, just off the Strip. If we can resurrect it (and I'm pretty certain we can) it would make a nice raffle prize giveaway for our show! Let me know, I can be reached at flnettles@hotmail.com (flnettles@hotmail.com) and if you or anyone would like more details about our show, just go to www.commodoreretroexpo.com (http://www.commodoreretroexpo.com)!
