@theprez
i'll be there! :)

-
I'll be there.
Also I hear that on the same weekend and at the same hotel there will be a Victoria's Secret model try-out competition.
If the above is untrue then there will still be some impressive hardware on show. So don't miss it.

LOL, that means my wife won't let me go!
-
I plan to go as well but would really like to share the drive up and the room. Get in touch if you're passing through the LA area on the way or if your here and want to come up to my place and have me drive it.
-
I'm going. Might even redeem frequent flyer miles and go to the shindig in Frankfurt on the 28th.
Wow, really cool to see active development, new hardware, etc.! I've been out of the Amiga loop for a few years.
Is Phase5 really back in the game or is this vapor?

I'm thinking I may bring my project red A500 Plus I am building to show off this year too. MAYBE my 4000T as well.

I think it's real, at least from what I've read about it.
-
Is Phase5 really back in the game or is this vapor?
They're making up PCB's, it has yet to be seen whether they're able to source all the components necessary to go on those boards... but it's progress! ;)

The guy operating under the "Phase 5" label these days used to work in customer support for P5 and bplan (and, apparently, somehow got his hands on technical specs and layouts during the P5 bankruptcy) - he was neither management nor was he a developer. Describing that as "P5 back in the game" might be giving him too much credit.
Plus, there's a ton of unanswered questions regarding the whole thing. Don't get your hopes up yet.

This is way off topic but I know someone personally that received a BPPC board new from this guy, so it is real progress. We shall see.

the hotel booking code has just been posted over at the amiwest blog (http://amiwestnet.customersmusic.com/amiwest2017blog/index.html#sect6.):
Hotel rates are final! After much internal negotiation, AmiWest 2017 hotel rates are now available for reservations. Please see the Reservations Page at this link (http://amiwest.net/reservations/) for the link to the hotel website.
The rates are $95.00 US for a double room and $119.00 US for a suite. See the reservations page above for more information.
When reserving online, the reservation group code is AMI. Please enter this code in the group code box when reserving online.
If you have trouble with the group code, simply call the hotel front desk at 1-916-923-1100 and ask for Joseph. He is the front desk manager. He is familiar with our show and will make sure that you get the AmiWest rate.
i've already booked. i hope to see other amiga.org members at the show this year! :)

@thread
at the moment the show hotel is showing all rooms fully booked, and the amiwest room block is all reserved. the show organizers are working on getting this resolved, so if you haven't been able to book accommodations yet, stay tuned, i should have more news on this sometime tomorrow....

There are others near by if you have a car, the Elk Hills one is nice. Good staff hot coffee.

I usually agree with your posts but you of all people know that Phase 5 became insolvent and any assets/ owed monies are gone in that insolvency. So there is no "hope" for anyone. Back when people had a line on this stuff someone shoud have went to DE and got the boards.
btw Gerald and TK feel terrible about that whole situation....

@thread
ok, so the good news is that there are so many people coming to amiwest, that we broke the hotel. just kidding. it looks like saturday night is heavily booked at the show hotel, but the show organizers have made arrangements at the hampton inn next door for folks who haven't yet made their hotel arrangements.
if you still need rooms for amiwest 2017 and are unable to book at the show hotel, here's what to do:
- call the hampton inn (http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/california/hampton-inn-and-suites-sacramento-cal-expo-SACABHX/index.html) next door. the number is +1 916 927-2222
- ask for shiva or rayna, ask for the amiwest rate
- if you have any problems contact brian (http://mailto:info@amiwest.net) at amiwest.net
the reservation page (http://amiwest.net/reservations) should be updated with this information shortly. in other news the amiga devcon (http://www.amiwest.net/aosps/) is shaping up nicely, with presentations from steven solie of hyperion entertainment, hans de ruiter of A-EON technology, and jaime krueger of bitbybit software in plan. other developers are also planning on attending, such as mark ritter, author of workbench explorer. so if you're interested in the devcon, don't delay -- make your arrangements now!

@eliyahu
Good news that it appears more people may be attending this year's show.
Amiga32 in Dusseldorf is also sold out too and has been for the past month or so. All I will say is i'm glad I already have my ticket for the event.
-
I so wanted to go to this.... alas... I will be at a work conference in Philly... I would much rather be at AmiWest!!

Inquiring minds want to know.... who's on the "Amiga's Got Talent" AGT, Ami-West guest STAR list in 2017?
Looked on the official Ami-West website and pickins looked kinda slim.
Will there be any "Surprise Appearances"? :)
-
I may be back the friday before the show starts after all now. BUT I have no hotel and dont want to drive alone after being gone for two weeks and 16 hour days.
Anyone passing through the LA area here on the 101 N. want to let me tag along and save money if I pay half and crash on the couch?
-
Any pilots here? Thinking of flying my Piper Cherokee to Amiwest. Leave from St. Louis area and split fuel. Probably 220 bucks each. Cherokee cruises 125-135mph.
-
@djomre
that has to the coolest amiwest-related travel arrangement ever proposed on this forum. if i was anywhere near st. louis, i'd take you up on that. awesome!

Yeah, the only thing cooler would be to be driven there by Petro!

terrific news from amiga on the lake (http://amigaonthelake.com/) this past week. apparently they'll be handing out 10%-off discounts for amiwest attendees -- so, for example, that's nearly $200 off the X5000 base system. and if you make your purchase during amiwest (http://amiwest.net) itself, you get another 7% discount for any additional purchases through the end of the month.
apparently amiga on the lake is continuing with their efforts to support amiga software development, and jaime kreuger will be talking about his joint projects with them at the show, too. and he'll dish on some sales information to give everyone an idea of how things are going at the only next-generation amiga dealer in the americas. yet another reason to join us in sunny sacramento later this month. i hope to see some of you there!

I'm at the Motel 6 a few miles away. I had booked for a single bed, but when I found out your situation, I tried to change to two beds. Too late! All the other rooms were reserved already.
If you bring a sleeping bag and air matress, you could use the floor of my room.

Great News!
AmiWest2017 is next week!

@thread
just wanted to update everyone on a few things.... the devcon has progressed nicely with several developers here. we've had the opportunity to play around with a bunch of stuff, including the source code to the original 'juggler' demo from the early days of the amiga launch (see here (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=3992)). jaime krueger, mark ritter, steve solie, hans de ruiter have been presenting, and there's plenty to come once the show starts tonight.
bill bosari, a.k.a, tekmage, is arriving later today, and should have a good streaming solution for those who have been unable to attend. and both A-EON and hyperion are presenting tomorrow morning with news, so be sure to tune in. steven solie has graciously offered to do a Q&A with amiga.org members after the show for those interested. we'll do that in a separate thread next week.
and lastly, a big thanks to goody and trevor for all of the booze so far. many a devcon attendee has had at least one headache since wednesday. well done! :)

Sounds fun.
It should be a very interesting year for AmiWest.
Looking forward to the video coverage as (once again) I can't make it there.
Oh well, there is always next year, after all, for a 'dead' platform things seem pretty lively, no doubt there will be an AmiWest 2018 (barring a natural disaster or any other act of God, God forbid).
Hoping all attending (including a few of my friends) have a good time.

What is the URL for the Live feed? The Broadcast link on the AmiWest page is broken.

@All
I've have updated the broadcast page on Amiwest.net. Here is what it says:
Latest status: Expect the streams to start at 10 am PT.
Be warned that the internet connection at the hotel is extremely unreliable. We could see issues with the stream dropping or cutting out. I have a backup plan so bear with us if the stream becomes to
This year we will be broadcasting with youTube here. Due to some technical issues the live stream from youTube does not work on the Amiga anymore. Can't have that! So we will be running a second stream, from the same source. This is using the older shoutcast technology that worked for us well in the past. I have tested this with both Emotion and mplayer. If you are on a PC, Mac, phone, or Linux I'd stick with youTube. If you are on an Amiga use the shoutcast stream.
Note to Emotion users, if the stream drops the play might not notify you, please reconnect if it appears to have stopped.
Shoutcast stream: http://54.147.139.76:8000/stream
YouTube Link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK5GI-nV6n8
The video's will be on youTube after the event on this channel
We will be monitoring the feedback on the streams on the AmigaWorld IRC server on the channel #amiwest2017. Connection details can be found here
-
This might not make it into the video coverage, but Paul "Acill" Rezendes will be demoing MorphOS 3.10 on his X5000 at a table rented be David "AmigaDave" Morris today and tomorrow.
Just thought I'd post a notice of this for anyone interested.

Eh, that wasn't TOO bad.
Nice details, like explain the extra memory shown being used by 'NoviaOS', and the new video drivers supporting the Radeon RX series.

I should be doing a quick demo during the Sunday demo slots of MorphOS 3.10 on the x5000. Stay tuned. If got it setup and stable now after getting a new video card.

Sounds like they're planning on you doing it tonight (Saturday), Paul.
Good luck.

If they have time tonight I can do it, but for sure tomorrow if not. I was having video card issues and got a new one this afternoon.

"Dickinson points out that a X5000 running MorphOS 3.10 is present at the show."
Yeah, Trevor DID do that, didn't he? :rtfm:
Actually, Aeon has been fairly supportive of that OS, considering their heavy involvement in OS4, Trevor has always been good about that.
Then again, OS4, MorphOS, Linux...whatever a user wants to run that might sell a system...
And the Linux distros that have been promulgated are actually pretty cool too.
Would have been nice to see a presentation based on those.

Not much news on Amigawest it seems. I mean this show stirs up a lot of noise in front of - but over the last years the substancial news/information from the shows were pretty low during the last years.

So the video switch didn't seem to like my hardware, didn't want to deal with any longer and just did a fast demo showing it's not vaporware and Morphos does run great in the x5000. The one on one demos on my table went great at least.

No big deal. Everyone that didn't go will just have to wait until the release (or attend Amiga 32, IF there is a demo there).
