Title: Looking for Amiga 1200
Post by: ToddH on April 18, 2017, 08:36:57 PM
Title says it all. Looking for an NTSC Amiga 1200, preferably in the U.S. I had an Amiga 600 but sold it recently. Still looking for that replacement 1200 from my youth.

 I've got a PAL A1200 going spare.

Pal won't do?

PAL would work I suppose if the machine is in the U.S. (don't want to pay a fortune in shipping), has a U.S. 120v power supply, and the keyboard layout isn't too wacky. My A600 had a weird keyboard layout I could never get used to.

Dont limit yourself to an NTSC model. You can do NTSC just fine on a PAL unit. I do it all the time on my test unit I use. You would just be limited using composite is all, but who does that anyway.

I would also be more than happy to look it over and recap it for you if needed at just the cost for the recap service.

If you're on Facebook you could always try hitting this guy up.  Saw this photo posted on one of the Amiga Facebook forums yesterday and when I commented about "hoarders" he said he was willing to sell "anything you need".  Looking at those stacks of boxes maybe he has one - or 17 - A1200's to spare!  ;)

Damn I get so angry when I see people like that!! So many parts that can be used for others and machines that dont get any use at all, and for what?

He's looking after them, so I don't have a problem with that. Now, if the roof was leaking and it was damp and dusty in there then I'd tend to agree with you. I think his retro gear is safe where it is though and looks to be well preserved. You have to remember that there's more old gear around that can possibly get used. The way see it, these hoarders are doing a good job by saving old electronics from landfill; plus it's at their OWN expense.

Oh you know I'm gonna get you to recap that bad boy.

Thought I'd be happy with the 600 but it just didn't do it for me. Guess I miss my 1200. Tried tracking down the one I owned but it has been passed on so many times I couldn't find it.

OK, there IS a point where hoarding starts to look like it involves mental health issues...:hammer:

Last one I shipped to the US was around 40 GBP for postage.

Some serious red flags there.

Thanks. I've got a recapped 1200 motherboard on the way. Now I'm just needing a working keyboard. Anybody got an extra laying around they are willing to part with?

You can probably still buy NOS keyboard/case combo at Vesalia.de.  I have bought many things from them in Germany, and they arrive here in the US in about 10 days.
