Hi all,
I'm looking for an ImageWriter II cable for my A1200's standard serial port (actually for the pass-thru on my MIDI adapter, but whatevs).
I could try a combination of various RS422, RS232, null-modem, gender-changer, and adapters, but I thought I'd rather just seek out the real thing.
Apparently this cable has been documented in old Workbench manuals and on Usenet...
Thanks!

Could this be the right cable?

Hey, looks like that one only has a 9-pin connector. The Amiga 1200's built-in serial connector is 25-pin. So, nope, that's not a solution...

Might not be of help, very old link.

Aaaa. Forgot about the 25pin on the amiga. But that is no problem.

That one would still need an adapter because the Amiga's serial port is also a male connector.

From what I wrote in 1992 from https://groups.google.com/forum/#!search/amiga$20imagewriter$20ii$20hardware$20handshake/comp.sys.amiga.hardware/Y6pRg1nvVIc/yWLSfnuuvyUJ
IW II Amiga

1 5
2 4
3 3
4 7
5 2
8 7
also connect 6 and 20 on the Amiga side
On the Amiga, specify CTS/RTS handshaking. The ImageWriter II should be set to default DIP switch settings.
These days it may be easier to use a DB-25 to mini DIN 8 cable and use a DB-25 breakout box for the custom wiring.

If you were using a big box amiga, I would suggest getting a Emplant board. Some versions have Appletalk compatible ports and improves emulation with Fusion. I used to use a HP deskwriter with my A3000 this way.

Wow!! Happy 25th anniversary of answering this question ;)

Thanks. In this case I am specifically excited about using the Imagewriter_II driver which came with Workbench. There are claims on the internet that it supports color printing very well with DPaint etc., and mine has a color ribbon.

Yes, "it just works" - as long as you have the correct cable. (The normal Apple cable can be used with XON/XOFF handshaking, which means text only.)
Note that the ribbons do not age well. You may want to check out https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/26424-new-imagewriter-ii-color-ribbons/
By 1992 the 24 pin printers were common so you'll only want to use a 9 pin ImageWriter II for color.

You can use the doubletalk ports on the Amiga side for printing, not just in emulation.
