Title: bsdsocket.library warning?
Post by: klx300r on February 25, 2017, 01:21:24 AM
well still messing with Amiga4000 and now trying to get her on line with my X-Surf-100 and EasyNet.  Installed AmiTCP & connection from my X-Surf-100 and router seems to be okay but when I try to go online I get "bsdsocket.library-warning wrong library version"?
is there a special version I'm supposed to be using with my CyberStorm MKIII?

also for some reason I had disable cpu cache from shell prior to going on line for some reason ?

ook re-installed AmiSSL and now online!

still don't know why I have to disable CPU cache to go online but ah well it works for now anyhow:hammer:

An X-Surf 100 here in an A2k, but no, I don't have to disable CPU caches. If the card announces itself correctly as autoconfig (it does in my system) and you use a proper CPU library, then the library will disable caching for the XSurf address space anyhow.

Do you have a CPU library installed? What kind of system is this?

@ Thomas Richter

it's an Amiga 4000, Cyberstorm MKIII-060@50 with all Phase 5 CS drivers installed. Main boot HD is a CF card and alson have a SCSI2SD board connected directly to my CS-MKIII on board SCSI.

Is the 68060.library loaded? (Xoper or XOpa will tell you). It seems that potentially the ZIII area the XSurf is located in is not marked correctly as cache-inhibited. While I have an A2000, it is also a 060@50, and I do not see any problems with it.

A potential test would be to replace the P5 68060.library with the one that comes with the mmu.library and continue testing from there. The installer script will make backups from your current configuration. Then, "MuScan" can tell you whether the configuration is actually correct.

PS: The output of "Showconfig" will be helpful.

thanks for the info Thomas! I definitely will investigate further on this especially since you don't have to disable the cpu cache on your A2k to go online

here's the showconfig and muscan of my system (https://www.flickr.com/photos/124412768@N04/)

Thanks. Yes, indeed, as I assumed, there is something wrong here. First, your fast RAM is only configured as writethrough, not as copyback, which means that the system runs unnecessarily slow. Second, the I/O space occupied by the XSurf is also configured as writethrough, but it should be cache-inhibited, which is the source of your trouble.

This is *not* the configuration that would be left by my 68060.library (or rather mmu.library) but something else misconfigured the system. What you see here is the configuration that was left by the Os startup through the TTx registers, re-configured probably by MuFastRom (or some other ROM-remapping tool, but likely the latter).

Thus, again: Which version of setpatch is this? Which version of the 68060.library is this? Is the 680x0.library installed? Do you have an ENVARC:MMU-Configuration file? If so, does it contain the line "ClearTTx" at the beginning (it *really should*).

Greetings,
Thomas

oh boy thanks for picking this stuff out Thomas as I've been scratching my head with this unusual behavior for the last month or so now and honestly the system is still quite snappy so wouldn't have figured it was a ram configuration problem...anyhow I'll definitely dig out the info you requested below (er above lol) once I'm back home from work in a few hours

ok Thomas so here's the info I could find:

68060 lib ver. 43.7
MMU lib   ver. 43.14
setpatch   ver. 44.38 (I attached the output below)

I don't see an MMU-configuration file in ENVARC?

The versions of the 68060.library and mmu.library are ancient. I'm currently at V46. Later versions can operate without an MMU-Configuration file, but not this release.

If I may, here is my suggestion: Pick http://aminet.net/util/libs/MMULib.lha from aminet, and copy from this archive "mmu.library" to LIBS: and the "68060.library" to LIBS:. This archive also contains an "MMU-Configuration" file, which can go to ENVARC:. Reboot - this should work.

done but now I can only boot up to a black screen? tried at least 20 times rebooting but same thing?

boots with no startup file to CLI no problem though

(will try copying over the files again in case one of the files got corrupted on the old floppy I used to copy it over from my X1000 to A4000)

Cybervision or any other P5 graphics card? P5 hardware? If so, then from the same archive "P5Init" needs to go to "LIBS:mmu/P5Init", and the last line of the ENVARC:MMUConfiguration should say "P5Init".

Sorry, P5 hardware - does not follow system specs.

No, there is no donate button, the libraries have always been for free and will continue to be so. Where are you located?

As far as I recall, the latest version should be part of Roadshow, which you can find here:

http://roadshow.apc-tcp.de/index-en.php

There should be a demo version available for testing. Otherwise, I can recommend the package, works quite well here.

thanks again Thomas ! So looks like i'll purchase Roadshow then & hopefully removing AmiTCP won't be too annoying ;-)
