Since Sunday afternoon, I have been getting the following response when trying to go to Amigaworld.net.
Unable to open 'http://www.amigaworld.net/'
ERROR 7 Couldn't connect to server.
This happens with Odyssey on OS4 & with Edge on Windows 10. My provider is AT&T. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?
Thanks,
BCP

Thanks, usefull site to know about.

There is some strange kind of DNS issue, amigaworld.net (an subdomans) are resolving to 127.0.0.1 thus failing to connect to the amigaworld server.
The server is actually up and running but only accessable via the ip address.
-
Strange hiccups, 5 mins ago couldn't connect, just now available. It's the DNS side, via IP I always could reach them.
-
Still down, guess nobody gives a crap.

Nobody bothers to inform Tomazkid - he is probably the lone maintainer who cares about it.

It is not "some strange kind of DNS issue", whoever is managing the zone file is clueless and does not take advice.

This is very much speculation - it could be because the site hosts Amistore.
One side effect might be, to make the Amistoe link usable, the main trunk of the site is coded to be Amistore friendly, but ends up being DNS unfriendly.
Just a thought, but it could explain the issue - you have to enter true IP address or it just doesn't work.

Its working fine here from Australia at the moment using the FQDN.
-
Well, its still not working here in the U.S. Its rather strange that there is no announcement from Aeon or Amigakit representatives....
-
ok I see what everyone means now. Its now not working for me and DNS resolves to localhost. it was working a few hours ago for a short while
-
The publishing name servers for the zone are not in sync, and all TTL values are whack (5 minutes for all records, including NS records???). looks like the buddyns.com servers are unable to transfer updates from ns1.amigaworld.net, or they simply refuse to (I would, with those values).

Working fine for me and I'm in the U.S.

@ToddH
There's definitely a problem with the DNS system with it only connecting to the correct IP intermittently. Direct connection via the correct IP code, 85.25.152.36 works fine. I've had to manually amend my hosts file in order to get it to connect to Amigaworld.net reliably at home!!! Needs must, but it's a shame the moderators aren't on top of this :(
We've discussed it on Amigaworld here:

Oh I've no doubt it is having issues but for me it is working reliably. Not sure why but I rarely visit there and prefer amiga.org anyway.

amigaworld.net has 3 NS records, of which only one serves correct IP address. If your resolver decides to ask that one, it will answer you correct IP address for a while, if your resolver asks any of the other, it will answer wrong IP address for a while.
