Title: The guys behind Uridium & Uridium II are back in the scene!
Post by: CodePoet on January 19, 2017, 02:18:05 PM
I found out some interesting "where are they now" info on the guys involved with Uridium & Uridium II (my favorite games), as well as Fire & Ice, Paradroid, etc - Thought I'd share

Hewson Consultants (Uridium publishers) - Closed their doors in 1991, but suddenly popped up again couple of years ago - They are now working on a spiritual successor to Uridium called Hyper Sentinel, and it looks bloody fantastic.

Andrew Braybrook (Graftgold member) - Developer of Uridium and Uridium II, started a Twitter account late 2015 and a blog with some really nice info and history. He's currently developing his skills on the PC side with DirectX11 with the aim of creating new 'classic' games

Stever Turner (Graftgold founder) - Developer and Musician for Uridium, started a twitter account late 2014 and a blog with some development history, and progress for his new game (Deepest Blue)

Stephen Rushbrook (Uridium 2 Artist) - Uploaded some concept art for Uridium 2 as well as ILBM tiles used in the game on his website. Interesting to note that he mentions there's an unreleased CD32 version of Uridium II, with slight changes to some colours as Andrew Braybrook is colorblind

Awesome. You really felt like the craft was flipping around and spinning and maneuvering.

Uridium had that physics and lighting elements to show it in a way that say, Zaxxon, just did not have.

From a link in the video it looks like it was made into a Kickstarter that didn't reach its funding goal (as of six months ago). Is it still being developed?

Well, my source reports active as of Oct 2016, and they were pretty close to the people involved when those games were done, and have kept in touch.

It is a real dev, not vapourware, I'm pretty confident about that. I think Hyper Sentinel, maybe April. That's just mojo telling me, I admit, but I know the people that longer or longer too bro. Hewson go way back.Even their first releases were edge at the time, in some respects. ZX82 time in America, roughly. They'd look for something, a limit, do it a little bit better than anyone else did at the time. Smart people do, I guess.

They ain't quick, but they do stuff tight and right. If there was CD32 Uridium, follows they would have been overseeing it at least. They owned a lot of rights on it, likely. A lot of that went dev did go pear shaped one way or the other. Money dried up, coders stopped. Coders might run out with bits of dev, but usually not all of it. That's why caution advised, all news releases really.Lot of hustlers out there, not just on Amiga

Those folks will have have several choices of skins for different versions. They would usually have a suite of options for a release even with U2 They liked to keep their options open, see which levels stacked up backed to back, that kind of thing, They kind of liked to mix things by experience and testing rather than a set theoretical running lists to stick to like glue.

They were certainly developing for more than CD full of levels. It's been about 23 years since they started, more. It's not been the only thing they've been doing of course.

I doubt they are playing with no 68K on their hands, the question really is when they are ready to put out what they've been tinkering with and in what forms, what platforms.
