I just posted a crazy question about bridgeboards and a Gotek's.....
-
What about lingering lurkers?
-
What about malingering lurkers?
-
Maybe it's not a lurker problem but a contributor problem - 90% of posts from 5% users and 10% of posts from 50% users (the rest are bots).
I'm thinking some people are just posting too much. Stop posting dammit!

No. ;-)

I'm here! I mostly read though - unless there's something specific I can contribute to :)

Why, is site traffic down?

Hey, I am not a lurker. This is my first post here and I am happy to contribute, I just have nothing to offer but my own sad story! LOL

About only Amiga site I bother to visit besides native finnish http://saku.bbs.fi/ Amiga forum, where I lurk pretty legularly too.
-
What is there to say that hasn't already been said? (Besides that most people are "lurkers".)
With so little new stuff happening it's hard to find anything different to post.
-
I'm here to lurk, like a ghost, i'm lurking everywhere ! ! !
-
I was a lurker... now I am a poster.... lots of questions... so people might start to tell me to stop posting.... :)

Well all you lurkers....tell us what Amiga systems you have :)
I have:
A4000T, two A4000's, X1000, CD32, and a CDTV.
-
Since I am a somewhat recent un-lurker, I have an Amiga 2000 currently in a coma, she's not yet rejoined the living.
-
Well I have a dead A1200 I am trying to restore to life.
-
I lurk therefore I am!
A1200 for gaming, but hopefully will learn some new stuff at the upcoming Amiga Ireland meetup this weekend. Also Interested in getting my hands on NG hardware when affordable (A1222), maybe then I'll have something to post about!
-
I'm predominately a lurker though I try to post when I believe I can help.
A4000D - A4000T - Amithlon - WinUAE - MorphOS
-
Why? So someone can make me feel like an idiot for being a newb? Or so I can post a pic of a piece of hardware, only to have a forum member who happens to be a medical doctor make a sarcastic comment about the dry skin on my hands? No thanks. That's why I stopped posting/asking questions two years ago.
-

Hey welcome! fun thread guys. You guys can just post on threads to agree with something or say "thats cool" or whatever. Also Noobs dont be afraid to ask stupid questions there are none!

No man the users here now are fully supporting of you. Most of the idiots left. you are among friends now! :)
-
The same DR person mentioned in the above ^^^ post is also the reason I quit posting at the same time. He even followed up with some nasty PM's. I have a LOT of classic hardware too.

Dude. Chill. I just asked what Amiga you have. Maybe you don't have one and use Emulation, or you have a Mac or PC. That's cool, you don't have to have an Amiga.
-
Rarely even visit this site anymore. Maybe once every handful of months without being logged in.
Best group to be a part of is the Commodore Amiga Facebook page. 13,000+ members and 100s probably actively checking/posting on the daily. Much more active. No reason to shut yourself out of an active community. By now most have gave into the evil of Facebook.
Surprised to see much of anyone left here. Forums will be a relic of the past just like BBS. :)
-
I am borg. Lurking is futile..
I have a few working miggies too. No 500 or 1000 but a 4000T a 4000 and some 2000s
-
I lurk. I sometimes post.
I posted more years back but I feel this place went downhill.
No offence to anyone as there are still people around that I like and enjoy reading posts by. Just the topics stopped interesting me as much.
-

Hope that doesn't turn out to be the case. Forums are searchable and allow you to have a real conversation. I can go back and reference a post from 10 years ago easily, if I need to. Try doing that on Facebook. ;)

I agree, at least for the moment anyway. Forums have a lot to offer over Facebook. I was a member of the Amiga group on there and found myself wasting so much time scrolling through pictures of peoples various Amiga hoards.
I prefer the forums now, they have always been more useful.
-
@Magnetic
Hey, some of us idiots are still around you know. You are not safe just yet ;)
-
Yep, I'm still here and I have my moments.
Heck, I even exchange messages with Franko every once in awhile (and he IS on facebook btw).
Come to think of it, if you want rude behavior...facebook is nimrod central.

Speak for yourself. Why anyone would give a single company access to that much personal information is beyond me. Supermarkets have to bribe customers with loyalty points to get them to sign up to 'Big Brother knows your shopping habits' cards! What exactly does Facebook give in return? Maybe a hollow sense of loss at not having as great a life (or meal for dinner) as your aquaintance from Year 10 at school?
I'll stick with Amiga.org and Amigaworld.net thank you. If Mark Zuckerberg wants my personal information he can request to be my pen pal or jog on (on his tour of every state in the U.S. he has planned this year, i.e. he's paid too much).
Same problem with Amazon. If we buy EVERYTHING from one company including plasters, paint, milk and clothes then quite soon the world of Bullfrog's Syndicate will come into being. Amazon already pays next to no corporation tax in the UK and treats its employees apallingly. Without Amazon marketplace many warehouse based resellers could no longer function as I found to my cost when I attempted to order a kettle off a badly maintained website left out to fallow due to Amazon & Ebay now accounting for 99% of their business! Let's just say the company had no idea the order had even been placed when I rang them despite a PayPal payment! The kettle soon arrived but this country's online retail sector no longer operates without Amazon, EBay ot PayPal (which is still EBay).
What with Micro Mart magazine going bust recently and with it the last printed maintream magazine I care about, I really think this 21st century mega-corporation/social media/celebrity/always connected and feedback obsessed world has gone mad.
The next garage, pet shop or dry cleaners that asks me for feedback on social media will get a Micro Mart back issue ceremonially wacking the nearest smart device onto the hard cold ground in a splintering of gorilla glass and aluminium. Not that they would care because they are probably paying £20 a month to insure the damned gadget. Rant over. :bitch:
-
I lurk here almost daily.
I post questions.
I reply to posts.
I vote sometimes.
I LOL and shout at the screen in equal measure in response to posts I see.
Perhaps one day Amiga.org will be gone.
But as long as I'm still around these things I will continue to do.
Amiga means "community"to me.
-
zombie voice - must post mooooreee...
-
OK, I confess, I lurk here a lot too but rarely post.
I tend to not say much if I haven't got much to say. I'm like that when I'm not on the web too, though.
My Amigas - A500, 2 x A 600, 2 x A1200, CDTV, Amiga One XE, Mac G4 with MorphOS, Acer laptop with AmigaForever, Amikit and IcAros, Raspberry Pi 'B' and Raspberry Pi 3 with Aeros

maybe we should have a reward system for number of meaningful posts ? give away amiga tshirts or mugs :)
-
I mostly lurk because I don't usually have a lot to add to the conversation. I've only gotten interested in Amigas again in the last year or two after a break of about 15 years.
Lately I've been writing some code in C, hopefully I'll be able to beat what I'm writing into good enough shape to put it on Aminet soon.
My Amigas:
* A2000/2MB Agnus/GVP 030@33MHz/8MB Fast/SCSI2SD/A2320 Flickerfixer.
* A1200/owned since new/totally stock apart from a CF card/wish I hadn't sold the DKB Cobra for peanuts in the late 90s when I was broke...
* A1000/looks awesome/not really useful.
Plus: Non-working A1000 and A2000 that I hope to get up and running again some day.
-

There already is. There is an activity award that looks like a trophy. It is based on the green measure bar thingy underneath your avatar.

No. It's an actual trophy. Wayne used to go around to the recipient's home at the end of every month and present it to them.

Been lurking for a couple of decades, i think. I check the site twice per week just to see what's going on. I think this will be my second post. Maybe I win the Lifetime of Lurking (LOL) award?
1 A500 (with spare motherboard)
1 A4000 (with Toaster 4000)
Neither has been turned on in a very long time. I did change out the A4K battery for a coin cell a long time ago, if you are curious.

I just recently replaced the rechargable coin battery in my A12OO Blizzard 1230 IV.. now my ami doesnt have amnesia no more.. :) looking forward to the 256meg ram I have in the post currently. Not sure what I can do with all that memory space.

Lurk here most every day but usually have nothing to say.
I'd rather while my time away keeping my miggy in play.

A1000, 2x A500, A1200, A3000. The only one living is the 3K. I dig it out of cold storage every few years to chant a hymn and knife a goat over its original power supply.
And I get inspired whenever Ars writes up a nice "keep it goin'" article (http://arstechnica.com/the-multiverse/2017/01/people-still-use-the-amiga-today-and-new-viva-amiga-documentary-shows-why/) on the Amiga.
My A3K just went from
CSPPC 233 + Picasso IV + Hydra AmigaNet + OS 3.9 and 48 megs RAM to
CSPPC 233 + Mediator 3000Di + Radeon 9200 + X-Surf 100 + Rapid Road + OS 4.1 FE and 400 megs RAM.
Mostly I stick to the NetBSD side of things, but OS 4.1 FE might turn me. In the words of Father Jack, "I'm a happy camper!"

*rasies hand* Lurker here!
I've a stock A500 and A1200 in the loft that I should play with more. Had to sell most Amiga stuff and my towered A1200 that I used for Scala / Video titling a few years back :(
Since then it's just been nostalgia trips playing SWOS and The Settlers on WinUAE.
Still have loads of magazines and cover CDs which should keep me busy.
Viva Amiga!

Viva Amiga!
I guess you watched the documentary recently ?

I just got a PM from a user stating that he cant post messages on forums for some reason like its a bug with aorg?

I can post fine. Might be the login bug, where you login but system doesnt actually log you in. affects some browser perhaps with filtering addons.

In light of Wayne's thread Id like to say this to all the lurkers: If you dont post and get involved there will be no site to lurk on in 5 years.. :(
Recently I have been trying to focus on what I consider the most important part of using the Amiga; development. Without new development, fewer and fewer users, old and new, will be drawn to the platform.
So, I have been trying to write posts about developing on the Amiga platform. If anybody else wants to help A) make that easier and B) enlighten folks like myself with your knowledge before it's gone, the Amiga will be a better place
If you have coding examples, link them. If you have projects or open source stuff that folks can contribute to, do so. I think the Amiga is a great platform for learning C and working on stuff. The problem is really finding help on dev docs beyond just autodocs. Examples are desperately needed.
Getting started in C, with GCC, in WinUAE or a modestly upgraded Amiga, is easy. Start with the ADE package I uploaded to aminet a while back.
http://aminet.net/package/dev/gcc/ADE (http://aminet.net/package/dev/gcc/ADE)
Instructions
=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Extract the .zip wherever you'd like the environment to exist. Add the
following lines to your S:User-Startup (or other startup script)
; BEGIN ADE
Cd Sys:ADE ; Or wherever you extracted it
Execute ADE-Startup
Cd Sys:
; END ADE
Changing Sys:ADE to path to the directory where ADE was extracted.
Performing the commands manually or restarting the computer at this
point gives you a working development environment to start with
This file is currently in .zip format. I am fairly certain I will convert it to .lha for those who exist solely in Amiga land. :)

I'm barely even a lurker (on any site). I signed up to ask some questions but don't get to interact much since the site isn't responsive (ie unusable on mobile).
As has been said already, Facebook info is not retrievable so the social media way isn't very helpful either. When it comes to asking questions, I prefer the stackoverflow style and so I use askamiga.com (disclaimer, I was part of the effort to get that online).
EDIT: I've just found the mobile skin in my profile. That may help :)
-
so I use askamiga.com (disclaimer, I was part of the effort to get that online)
There should be a persistent link on the site for askamiga.com, even if the password requirements are ludicrous. Haven't you ever read this? https://xkcd.com/936/ (https://xkcd.com/936/)
-
since the site isn't responsive (ie unusable on mobile).
Changing to a responsive website template isn't likely to happen (in our lifetimes), but I've had no trouble navigating on any of the mobile devices I own. Just gotta zoom in a bit.
-
Mobile works fine for me.
I'd guess must be a specific device.
I prefer firefox over the webkit browsers, it just seems to work better to me.
-
Yes, like I say - it works great when you change skin/theme to mobile. I just wasn't aware of that option. Might be worth making it more discoverable.
It takes a little getting used to, but it loads really fast which is great. It should help not just on the mobile but on IBrowse too :)

I typically browse this site from my Amiga using the a.org proxy (which renders the site different for compatibility).

I used to be a regular but got so pissed off with the whole Franko fiasco and the constant crap from that whole thing that i stopped logging on and only read the posts. Well that was nice. Speak to you again in another 5 years lol.
-
No more Franko, you can come back now :P
I've only recently been actively checking a few times a day after a long long break. Theres definitely very little activity on the site these days.
-
It's been awhile since I posted. I have been busy working on my game for Android inspired by a Amiga PD game "Zombie Apocalypse".
The game is actually done, I guess I can make a thread in games sub forum.
Actually, which sub forum this would be appropriate?
-

Yep I would definitely think so too. the world seems more nutter these days anyways.

I typically browse this site from my Amiga using the a.org proxy (which renders the site different for compatibility).
I found it in the user control panel, there was an option buried at the bottom ( I think) of one of the pages. It works relatively well and although I haven't browsed from my Amiga yet, doing the same on EAB has sped up browsing a lot.
I'm following the latest WRP updates though which will enhance browsing a lot on Amiga by delivering https pages rendered as gifs with clickable URLs and text entry :) http://askamiga.com/questions/question/how-can-i-view-https-sites-with-ibrowse

I think Franko is still a Lurker!
Or I'd like to think that Franko is still a Lurker.
Personally I miss Frank, at least he was never boring.
I touch bases with him every once and awhile just to find out how the squirrels are doing.
-
I haven't been checking in much lately - Was really ill for a while, but that's over now, and the old A2000 is kicking again - Just need to get a new board so I can get it back online.
-
I have a slew of old classic hardware though I'm a hardcore Commodore fan more than anything. I go back and forth between the 8 bits and 16/32 bits so my checking in here comes and goes too.
With the possibility of new Amiga hardware (Tabor), I'll probably be here more often.
-
I'm still fighting my setup on this A3000. While I have been making some progress... I've been sparing you my further stupid questions.
-
Hey! I'm probably the MAIN lurker! :D
The father of all lurkers!

No, some are older. 5 Posts a year average probably qualifies.

Not even close :)
-
If I have something to say, I will say it. But I read a lot when I'm passing through. I may go months without checking in but always come back, and usually check in daily.
I get tired of the infighting between the various inner communities. The Amiga is Dead for all intensive purposes but not fully until mine is pried from my dead hands (A1200) !.!.!
I have owned hardware for every flavor at one time or another A1/Pegasus/Mac & PC for UAE, AROS but unfortunately none of them gave me "Its really an Amiga" feeling. But since the Amiga is dead! This is what we have and if it trips your trigger, makes you happy I say enjoy!
Myself (argue mode!) if you have to use UAE for running Amiga stuff, you are an emulator not an Amiga! But you can still be the best you can be! We have what we have. Fighting over it is a waste of typing IMO.
I look forward to a working standalone Vampire because my last piggy is getting Oooold!
-
Gulty as charged, m'lud!
I usually look in on at least 4 mor 5 days a week, along with the other amiga sites, but only actually log in if I have a point to make, or a question to ask.
Sometimes on a rare occasion, I might even have some knowledge which may help someone out.
Otherwise, I read the news and the main posts and that's maybe it.
Forthose who asked, I currently have:
A1XE - OS4.1FE Upd 1 - dead, it's killed my storage again, this time a DOM module
A1200, being rebuilt into a tower, will have OS3.5
A1200 still in its wedge case, OS 3.0
A600 x 2, still in original cases, OS 2.4
A500, original plus 1Mb emory expansion, OS 1.3
CDTV, minus the CD Caddy
-
i am the king lurker
-
i lurk because it feels good hahaha and besides the fact that classic %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!box amigas are far too overpriced i got nothing to ad except that ima pro musician a pro artist and a general genius. if someone gave me a 1200 to play with sure id do some thing good but i cant afford to blow $500 on a basic slow as %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@! 1200
-
Hey that's a discrimination against lurkers :-)
-
I don't think anyone wants to hear me complain about being ripped off on the non-functional big ram 2630 that is still sitting in my closet. ;)

<--- Lurker. For a long time. Couple of times a day.
Hey, this thread is a chance for me to raise my post count!

Still lurking and learning. Still within a year of my move, so Amigas are still in boxes.

Hope you removed the batteries! :)

I wasn't lurking, I was AwoL.
Actually, I'm pretty sure I really was AwoL... but I cannot remember the login details and that was a long time ago...
Since then, I haven't lurked, I simply haven't been here cos life got in the way...
Anyway, Lurkers view posts too!
- and there is A LOT going on in the Amiga scene, imho, not all of it is apparent here though...
-
In light of Wayne's thread Id like to say this to all the lurkers: If you dont post and get involved there will be no site to lurk on in 5 years.. :(
I did a n unboxing of my favorite game that I used to play in the arcade when I was a kid..but that is more Commodore64 action, still worthy of posting the link here to the video??

:hammer: :hammer:
-
Yes, non existent moderation unless you posted a link to BB3 or something else like that and then within minutes it was gone. And this whole time the English board flourished and grew. They always had the "Zone" and I don't believe that it caused them too much trouble or it wouldn't still be there.
-
I lurk here but will ask when I need help ..just getting back to my Amiga's :)
-
I didn't mean to lurk, I was just rarely moved to comment. On rare occasions I'd start to make a comment but would then always have forgotten my password. I've become very platform and software agnostic over the years and it was too tempting to revert back to my old ways... Not that I was ever particularly argumentative but I loved preaching to the choir and very quixotic in my thinking that niche computing in general would always be as common as driving an odd car or having an unusual stomp pedal.
I have a 4k desktop, CSPPC 060@50+604@200, Picasso IV, and I can't remember how much RAM... I used to quote a number that added the 4MB on the video card to the RAM on the CyberStorm. I think, if I plugged it in right now I might be able to get it to boot. The HD was going out when I retired it, and it takes a good slap on the side to get it to boot. I don't want to lose that data, the bulk of which is software, old emails and anything too large to fit on a single floppy. So it just sits there waiting for me to hit the lottery and invest in some solution to transferring 1GB of data to my PC... Well, I'd love to have it working again with a new drive as well, but I'd never be able to get the specific mix of 060 libraries and P96 versions and PowerUp libraries and startup sequence to get it to boot. I was lucky to get it all working once, and that was when I knew it like the back of my hand.
I've also got a 2K with a VXL 030@40, DCTV, 11MB, 2MB Agnus, WB 2.1 and a Live! 2000 framegrabber, 44MB Syquest. As far as I know it should still boot. There is leakage from the battery, though I had put something under it ages ago when I learned about the issue. I wanted to have someone pull the battery, but time just kinda ticked by. There's evidence of damage, but it appears to be very superficial.
I've got a nice looking A1000 that may or may not work, and a A500 that I know does not. The 1000 has an odd side memory expansion that is housed in a large metal case and contains a replaceable fuse.
So yeah, I registered back in 2011, I think, and made just one post until a few weeks ago. I'm mostly interested in small, low power, FPGA based Classic Amiga like devices. I followed NaTami, I'm very impressed by the Vampire boards and think Mist looks nice, too. But I don't know what it would take for me to invest in any of these. I want to see the evolution of the Classic Amiga, the Amiga Commodore would have made in 2000 or even 2005 if they'd simply stayed the course. I don't necessarily mean an AAA or Hombre machine, but something like SAGA with mixed chunky and planar, HW alpha/genlocking, and some kind of unusual 3D co-processor... I'd like to see an Amiga design incorporating other chips of that era, as those are what Commodore would have likely copied. Maybe an FPGA Amiga with the SuperFX chip used in the SNES, or even the Tom and Jerry from the Jaguar. Some say that the Amiga doesn't need a GPU, as it's a retro machine and it never properly had one before. But the Amiga's 3D is what got me hooked on 3D in the firstplace... Games like FA-18, Stunt Racer, ZeeWolf... Demos like Lapsuus and a few from TBL... I'd like to see an Amiga that could handle the best graphics the Amiga ever produced with ease, while offering a new set of tricks based on modern designs. Things like screen-space ambient occlusion, and bloom, HDRI color...

Hi All
Just don't have anything to Say, My A1200/30 works and I can play Hunter and Furry of the furries anytime I want!

Yes that idiot franko ruined this site. But hes banned and now its very positive and helpful. New management as well.

Hi
Off topic, has the guy from Phase 5 facebook gone insane? His posts are seeming more an more OTT.
Only started following him, as I hoped for a 060 to be produsced for my A1200 I could afford and use easily (the reason I stopped coming on here and sold my PPC is it all got a bit beyond me!)
Regards
Barry

That implies that he was ever sane to begin with.

Just don't have anything to Say
That's how I feel as well. I used to participate in technical discussions now and then but there aren't nearly as many any more. Unfortunately I have been losing interest in my Amigas and a month ago I salvaged my AmigaOne case to use as a Linux machine. The AmigaOne motherboard is now in a cardboard box in a closet - hopefully temporarily. My classic machines are hooked up but looks like they both have a thin film of dust on them at the moment. Too bad. I was kinda hoping my interest would be rejuvenated by the A1222 but ....

I lurk occasionally, since my enthusiasm for Amigas as well other retro computers waxes and wanes. Partly because of time restraints, never enough time to do everything I want. My poor A1200 is still waiting for me to try and salvage it, I will not give up hope even though it hasn't worked properly for a few years... At least my A500s and C64s are still like new!
Also got a MiST a while ago, which I have been doing stuff with.

In light of Wayne's thread Id like to say this to all the lurkers: If you dont post and get involved there will be no site to lurk on in 5 years.. :(
This is my 37th post in ten years, which qualifies me as a lurker, I guess. I do better at that other place...

In 4 years:
- re-brand it to AmigaLurker.org
- get a bot to randomly post questions asking when Amiga OS4.x will get multi-thread support,
and all will be fine.

Let's not forget "When will A1222 be released", etc.

Hey that is a great question... When will it be released anyway?

Hello everyone,
Still lurking about here. I don't visit daily, but at least once a week. My Amigas include: A2000, A4000, AmigaOne XE, AmigaOne X1000. Favorite Amiga games: Shadow of the Beast, Defender of the Crown, Wings, Cannon Fodder.
Long Live the Amiga!
