Title: CDTV connections
Post by: toples50 on January 05, 2017, 08:34:03 AM
I have a CDTV but I want to know if I can connect normal Amiga mouse/joystick to CDTV and also an A2000 keyboard with an adapter. Is it possible? How about external floppy?

Sure you can. CDTV has nearly all the same ports as a standard Amiga, and even a few that are custom to just it (although normal mouse & joystick may need an adapter).  Flip it around and have a look at the back. C= even shipped an entire line of accessories for it in matching black. Perhaps you've seen these pictures before? :)

For a joystick and mouse look from ebay. I bough mine from guy from Poland.

I also modified A2000 keyboard to CDTV use. It was prety easy actually. You just need to google righ pin order for both. PS2 cable from old PC keyboard and cut one pin from it.

You might want to get newer / better CDTV roms if you want to upgrade kickstart to 3.1. Rom / Kickstart upgrade would be essential if you want to have hard drive to it.

This hack may be helpful, also:

There's a floppy drive port right on the back. :)  and utri007 commented how to do the keyboard.

Check the link I posted above for info on adding DB9 ports for mouse/joystick. Lots of other mods available, as well. Here's some more info on adding a hard drive, if you so choose:

OK

With this you can use standard usb keyboard

Joystick interface like this, will add two standard joystic ports to CDTV.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mouse-and-joystick-interface-for-the-Amiga-CDTV-/182392923493?hash=item2a77772565:m:mTb_T1euEAdL1_Ka_n32aGA

Those would be easy. If you want to complete remove CDTV's unstandard ports, that would be more difficult and you should be familiar with soldering.

Floppy drive is not a problem, you can use any external Amiga floppy drive.

If you enjoy a good hunt, you could always search for a Brickette, which I've only seen in the wild once in my lifetime.

I'm waiting to see someone start adapting the Vampire board to fit inside CDTV. Am sure there'll be clearance issues all over the place, but that'll be one heck of a system. ;)

I've used the USB adapter listed earlier for my keyboard. I use an Apple Keyboard with it currently, but I also just ordered a cheap cable that lets me use a standard PS2 keyboard with it. I got it off ebay from a UK seller. Works great.

I also ordered the mouse and joy adapter listed. They work well too, but are tricky to get working if you dont pay attention to the included manual.

The only "iffy" connection on a CDTV is Midi, because no other Amiga model had Midi ports.

Can be troublesome to get working. Usually a question of making sure the Midi software you are using is pointing at the correct port.
