Hyperion Entertainment is proud to announce the immediate release of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 1 for all supported systems including PowerPC-equipped 68K Amiga computers. Building on the existing AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition platform, Update 1 is the culmination of many man-months of work by our dedicated team of AmigaOS developers, translators and beta testers. It delivers a selection of new features and a host of bug fixes and best of all, it is available as a free digital download, from the restricted download area (http://www.hyperion-entertainment.biz/index.php/downloads?view=files&parent=36) of the Hyperion Entertainment website and via AmiUpdate, for all registered AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition customers. Details about all changes can be found in the included AmigaGuide changelog document.

Not super keen on the original thread being closed in favor of the (quote-unquote) "official thread". Why do we need an "official thread"? Somebody just grumpy that I beat them to the punch by posting the news first?

...The more conspiratorial thought might be that it was to bury Acill's comments about it not working. :(

Oh well, happy new year!

Yes, works fine! You can add ZorroIII RAM as system memory now......

Download the lha from hyperion instead of using Amiupdate! you can´t change the Downloadpath within amiupdate on classics! (Bug Report written!)

The update needs aproximately 60 MB free Ram for Installation with Amiupdate!

I cant get it to work via emulation.  Every time I download the update via amiupdate it cant unpack as the lha is corrupt

Ok got it to work by downloading direct from hyperion.  Three different browser attempts and twice in netsurf before it would download correctly.

And the a failed installation cause a mui class was in use

But done now :)

Need to download change log to see whats updated :)

@JJ

Worked by downloading from Amiupdate, but I also had a file in use and there is no retry buildin the installer so it quit at 57%.
Downloaded the update, after a soft reboot, from the Hyperion site, and installed it with no problems.

Yes.  Best way is a clean Final Edition install, then download the lha from Hyperion and apply it...  It works :) Z3 memory can work as main memory now if you add "NORAMPAGER" to the bootloader command line in s-s like this:

Bootloader COMMANDLINE="NORAMPAGER"

That will tell the kernel to look for zorro 3 memory and add it as main system memory.  Obviously it's rather slow on real hardware - we are talking 8-12MB/sec over Zorro 3, but on WinUAE it shouldn't be any slower than any other memory.

Just as a comparison Cyberstorm PPC memory is 60-100MB/sec...so you can see that once you start using the Zorro 3 memory you get a big performance hit....it sucks but I'll take the memory over not having it.

Fresh install of FE on UAE went fine, installed the Extras with no problem, configured uaegfx and uaenet.device without issue, installed Update 1 and it's now as stable as a house of cards in a hurricane. :/

Don't want to risk my Peg2 without taking backups first.

works great on my peg2. it must be said again and again that winuae is *not* a supported platform, and there is no guarantee any of toni's latest changes will be work with the OS.

Seems to work well on FS-UAE on my Macbook, nice to see 640MB of RAM instead of just 128MB :)

I've only got 2MB chip and 128MB on the emulated csppc.

Will have a play around at some point to see what I can do.

You give it 512MB of Zorro3 RAM and edit startup-sequence, so the line with BootLoader says...
Code: [Select]
C:BootLoader COMMANDLINE NORAMPAGER

:)

So, maybe this should be a different thread, but I thought I'd try here first.

I ordered OS4.1FE for Classic (intended for WinUAE) from Amigakit.com when it arrived in 2015, and can still see my completed order in account history on their website.  However, I forgot to register it on hyperion's website so now I can't access the update.  (I did register the former version and got up to update 6 before, but that isn't enough to get the FE update 1).

Since I did pay for it and can prove I have, but have lost the packaging, how do I recover the registration number in order to register on the website and get the update?

Thanks!

i gave up on timberwolf on my peg2 long ago. never found a use-case where it was better than odyssey TBH.

Some apparently have used 1 GB successfully, though it may requires a 64bit host machine and WinUAE 64bit.

In testing based on Toni's suggestion I used two Z3 Ram cards, 512MB and 256MB, which worked successfully.

It took me a while to locate my copy, but the registration number is on the back of the manual ("boot guide") in the DVD case.  If you don't have that, then there's an outside chance AmigaKit keep a record of the serial numbers.

You should keep such details safe for precisely this reason!

They used to record the serial number when the OS was released in card boxes but the DVD cases are shrink wrapped from the factory.

We have explained this problem a few times to Hyperion over the last two years.

With a customer's permission we can open the software and record the serial number on their account before sending the package- if a customer wants to do this, please let us know in the order comments when placing the order.  This may be useful also if you want to register and download the ISO before the actual boxed product arrives in the mail.

Incidentally, we always record the Enhancer Software (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1299) serial number before sending out, so you can register in AMIStore and download before receving the CD too.

For me, when I increase Z3 RAM above 256 MB, it fails to load the network driver, video card driver (if using Picasso), sound etc. Seems like an address space conflict. As soon as I reduce the RAM below 256 MB, it works.

How can I use more without getting errors? My systems run 64-bit Windows and have 8 and 16 GB of RAM, so physical RAM shouldn't be a problem.

How much ram do you have assigned to UAEGfx card?

I'm using:
64 MB for UAEGfx
128 MB Accelerator
2 MB Chip
512 MB 1st Z3 Fastram
512 MB 2n Z3 Fastram
A2065 nic

Configured as Z3, not Z2.

Drop down menu under memory, scroll to #1 Z3 Fast memory and move the slider to your desired amount.

I believe most are just choosing 1 block but Toni suggested using 1 512MB and 1 256MB which I initially did but then wanted to test moving it to (2) 512MB.

AmigaOS 4.1 FE+Update 1 will only search for Zorro 3 memory.  Zorro 2 memory maxes out at (I think) 8MB and isn't that much....
Title: Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 1 Now Available
Post by: kolla on January 10, 2017, 03:20:07 PM
Sorry, that was a typo on my behalf - I meant Zorro3 of course.

The thing is, I use FS-UAE, and though it does let me set up 1G of Zorro3 RAM in the GUI, it will not launch with it, not 768MB, saying that those are unsupported sizes of "zorro_iii_memory". Hence I am curious on what the actual _config file_ (A4000-OS4.uae?) looks like. It happens every now and then that FS-UAE supports config file entries beyond what the GUI provides.

EDIT: With latest developer release, it works and I do get 1GB of FAST RAM. But P96 gets confused and RTG is gone... ok :)

P96 still working for me.  I have a 1920x1080 @ 32 bit workbench, network/internet still working as well.

Config (not at  home so off memory) is

A4000T system/rom/chipset/NTSC
CyberstormPPC w/128 MB
CyberSCSI.device handling System drive, Work drive and CDrom
UAEGfx w/64 MB
A2065 Nic with "ethernet.device" as the driver
Chip ram - 2 MB
#1 Z3 Ram - 512 MB
#2 Z3 Ram - 512 MB

Is there any particular reason to emulate an A2065 instead of using uaenet.device?  I'm thinking the instability of my setup state started when I enabled networking.

It's so unstable I can't even run AmiUpdate without it locking up then crashing UAE.

A2065 with the ethernet.device (not sure where I got that, probably one of the "Installing AOS 4.1FE in WinUAE" threads) worked before any uae devices (gfx, net, drives, etc..) could be used in emulation of 4.1, so I still use it.

The other thing to keep in mind is if you don't configure a PCI busboard (Mediator/GREX, etc...) in WinUAE you save address space in the Zorro III range.  That can potentially allow you to add additional Zorro III memory.

The Mediator can take 256MB or 512MB of Zorro III address space, for example, if configured.

So if you use uaegfx and a Zorro based network card (emulated) you aren't using alot of address space.

Well I experimented a bit more and I think I might have gotten it stable with 512 MB of Z3 + 128 MB Accelerator.

I did indeed have a bridgeboard emulated, so I took that out. I reduced Video memory from 64 MB to 16 MB (I could probably go down to 8 MB, because that's enough to hold 1920x1080 @ 32bpp). I also switched to the uaenet.device for networking, not sure if that reduces address space usage?

I tried upping Z3 to 768 MB, but this caused the entire WinUAE to crash just as the workbench screen appeared during bootup. According to this: https://www.amigaforever.com/kb/13-111 the maximum amount of address space under AmigaOS 4.1 is 768 MB, so I'm not sure how some people manage to get it working with 1+ GB of RAM.
