Well I should say more up-to-date and bullet proof, too allow me to use upcoming AmigaOne X5000 more often and less using of my Macs.
Web Browser.
Now don't get me wrong, when I used owned my AmigaOne X1K, I enjoyed using Odyssey. I feel it is the best most modern web browser we had at the time, and I think when I sold my X1K 1.5 years ago it was 1.23 version I used. Guessing it is about the same today.
What I dream for in 2017 is I can use my X5K as a more main system and tend to use less my Macs. For that to happen, since I need access to work related web sites, is a more up-to-date web experience. This alone will allow me to use a Amiga OS 4.1FE even more for every day work.
For work I need to access a number of secure websites, and gmail apps, and the like. Odyssey at the time would not work with them all. So I used my loonix i7 based system to do so.
Would be great if say A-Eon/AmigaKit can one day take up the task of a new modern up-to-date web-browser for us all. I am happy to pay $ for this as I use it for business. I don't expect free and for any Amiga NG folks out there, I bet they are also willing to pay for something modern. Not some kickstarter or one we chip in and hope for the best, like Timberwolf, but taken on professionally by some company like A-Eon/AmigaKit and have folks buy it when it comes out.
I would happily pay. Will allow me to get entrenched into Amiga OS even more.
I bet many of us Amiga NG folks would agree an up-to-date and one that continues updates after-wards Amiga OS web browser would be a big asset to the AmigaNG Platform.
Anyway, one can dream. Until then I will have to hammer on my Mac and Loonix boxes for more professional work. Although AmiKit X will be neat when it comes out for more than Alice systems, I do dream an Amiga OS 4.1FE native browser, even Odyssey as I really like that one, would be cool.
But something that gets updated professionally and to be paid for so we know support will come is OK by me.

Just don't hold your breath :) AmigaOS operates and works so differently than other operating systems, that porting modern web technologies to the platform is very difficult.

A lot of people would be happy to pay money for this (with the exception of the cheapskate Amigans who expect everything for free). What we have is a lack of developers.
And then god-forbid you develope something and post about it in the forums, where you get sh** all over by certain users. It's a lose-lose situation. :(

Its a particularly tricky job for ppc and 68k systems given that WebKit sources more or less favor little endian systems.
This is a big part of the reason x86 AROS Odyssey is more advanced than the versions available for the other NG Amiga based systems. Fewer obstacles for the developers.
Granted WebKit isn't the only option, but its the best option we have for for a modern, bells and whistles browser engine.

This talk about porting modern browsers has been going on for years. In all that time a new browser could've been developed from scratch.

@ amigasociety
we were 'almost' there with Timberwolf as I had all my favourite Firefox add-ons working great on my X1K but the bros abandoned it and after OS4.1FE was released it's basically useless now.
Odyssey is the best we have right now thanks to Fab & kas1e but ya a bullet proof web browser is at the top of my list for sure and would happily pay for it!

Well, I'd agree with you that there aren't many people coding for the Amiga. It's not exactly flavour of the month with browser enthusiasts. Never was. Browsers these days tend to boss operating systems into submission, which isn't going to sit well with a time slicing OS like AmigaDOS always was.
I guess one option would be to use an open source base like Chromium or Mozilla and work up from there. It's not my idea of a fun project.
As for getting sh*t on, I didn't join this forum to make enemies, and I regret any bad feelings I might have caused. I'm sorry if you thought I was just being a smartass.
I did try to use smileys and be nice, and I'd be the first to admit I have plenty of faults of my own.

And it would not have mattered since the web is in constant evolution. Web browsers need more or less constant maintenance to keep up with trends and technologies.

I was thinking of a a thread a few days ago where THoR announced an update to his libraries and tools that went wildly off-topic and turned pretty insulting (IMHO). Not that that kind of behavior isn't the norm around here, lol! :(

I'd *still* pay good money for an update to Ibrowse! :(

I try to make it a rule when posting - unless I can see a possible method, I STFU.
If I can see a possible method or answer, I post it (although it could be wrong or incomplete).
Real trolls just throw mud and never offer anything of value or worth.

same here. i see folks using ibrowse 2.5 beta builds at amiwest every year, and although it's not exactly 'modern' it is blindingly fast. i wish there was someway to assist oliver in getting permission to finally release it to the public.

How would one go about becoming an Ibrowse 2.5 beta tester?

@Oldsmobile_Mike
i wish i knew! :)

It would have mattered, because it could've been more than a quick & dirty port. Instead it could've been well written, maintainable and fast.

I think for the "full web experience" these days you need too much horsepower (classics will never be great web machines) and there's so much that'll never be compatible with AmigaOS. Even a great browser would be somewhat crippled by things like lack of Flash (unfortunately.) I've got a dual G5 PowerMac that has a somewhat well-supported browser (TenFourFox) and I get better performance with a $10 thrift store quad-core Atom machine with Chrome/Edge.
For fun? Why not. But when I actually need to use the web to get things done there's no beating a mainstream, current browser.

Flash is dead, and good riddance. I've removed it from all of our business machines and blocked further installs, with the exception of a handful of machines that still need to access outdated sites (for example, vendor sites that host their own videos instead of just putting them on YouTube).
Finally got around to implementing that "hack" to Ibrowse last night which forces it to use tls mode instead of ssl and was *very* surprised at how many sites became accessible again. If only the devs could get it together and continue updating that application. :(
