Title: Recommendations for 2mb A1200?
Post by: sammyfox on December 20, 2016, 02:54:46 AM
Hi there. I got my amiga 1200 not long ago and I played some games, and I was wondering what non-gaming software I could put in there that'd work on a mostly stock machine with 2mb of ram and no accelerators.

Dear Friend:

You could get deluxe paint or brilliance for making pictures.
Moviesetter or disney the animation studio for cartoon animations.
Deluxe music construction set or octamed for music.
Amos or Amos Professional for creating your own amiga games.
I use all of these on my amiga 2000 with 2 mb ram, but I know
they will all run on an amiga 1200.
I used to have an amiga 1200 before, and also used all of these
software in it.
Merry Christmas !!!

Are there good office-type programs?

There are a few old programs, Final Copy2 comes to mind. A better experience would be on an a  030 machine.

ProWrite, Kindwords, almost any A500-era word processor, early versions of PageStream (for DTP). Try to hunt up some issues of AmigaWorld magazine - they had articles on "the best word processor" every six months or so, back in the day.  ;)

Basically all production software meant for 1MB ECS/OCS machines. 2MBs of an A1200 should be plenty :) Also add a hard drive if you haven't yet. CF adapters are dirt cheap.

Final Writer 97 and Turbocalc are what I use(d) on my A1200, both still useful.
