Title: Host Lookup failed, no DNS entry found?
Post by: carvedeye on December 17, 2016, 10:59:38 PM
Hi I am trying to get Genesis setup due to having to re-install everything onto a new hard drive and I keep getting this error whenever ibrowse is trying to load a site and ideas?

Here what I have done in regards to setting it up.

1. Chosen Network
2. Located the driver FastEthernet.Device
3. Entered IP 192.168.0.40
    Netmask is 255.255.255.0
    Router IP 192.168.0.1
4. DNS: 194.168.4.100 (Virgin Media)
    Domain Name: Virgin.net

But I keep getting "Host Lookup failed, no DNS entry found?"

Try changing your DNS IP to the same as your router.

Did you use the GEnesis wizard to setup the network?

Yes I ran the wizard and I have tried both my ISP DNS and my routers IP but still getting the same error.

Had lots of problems using it with mediator in the past. I used MiamiDX and then moved on to Roadshow.

For a moment I thought this thread was started by me since the problem you describe is very similar to mine. Not wanting to hijack your thread, I would just like to describe what happens in my situation. It could be useful for you.

For years now I am connecting my Amiga through my pc's internet connection (the pc has 2 network cards) and, after some Windows 10.1 update, I suddenly can no longer forward the DNS entries to my Amiga. I can ping both machines from both sides, but IBrowse keeps giving me that same error as you are describing. I didnt change anything in the configuration.

Again, my set up is a little different, but I am going to keep a close eye on this thread to see how your issue is resolved. To start with I am reinstalling Windows 10 today to see if that makes a difference (before updating).

@rvo_nl:

There have been a lot of issues with Win 10 and Internet connections recently. Before you reinstall you might want to check out the patch mentioned in this article to see if it addresses your issue:

Thanks, I can confirm that by now. Reinstalling Windows solved the issue with network sharing for me. But then, after running Windows Update, IBrowse can no longer resolve hosts. Ofcourse, I had created a 'System Restore Point' before running Windows Update, so I could easily do a rollback. But it seems Microsoft actually disables System Restore before it installs the problematic update.. :| The patch didnt work either. Sigh.. Will have to wait until someone finds a solution.

Ok so I have formatted my hard drive and reinstalled AmigaOS 3.9 with both boing bags.
Re-Installed the mediator software and have installed both my GFX Card and Network Card I then installed EasyNet and I have ran snoopdos when I open easynet (before actually connecting online) and this is what it is saying.

I would recommend you use roadshow.  I did lots of testing years ago and it gave the least amount of issues and the greatest performance.

I have a mediator card also.

Well I have tried to get the stupid Amiga 1200 online but still no look, I have went back to Workbench 3.1 and upgraded to OS 3.9 just in case it was a bad install, I then went and setup everything up ie.. installed Genesis and all the boing bags, installed mui 3.8 and still no luck. I can't even ping my router or any of my systems on my network it just comes up saying unknown command? if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
:(

If you get that ping is unknown command, then I cannot believe you have installed Roadshow - it puts ping right in C: which is always in command line path.

Yes my Network card is fine, I purchased it from Amigakit and it said on the description that it is compatible with the mediator. Here is link to card I have.

could you try easynet? The software is included in the package..... normal setup is for example
your ip 192.168.0.10
netmask 255.255.255.0
router: 192.168.0.1
DN 192.168.0.1

nothing else to do.... check the Netwok-cable !

I have also noticed that its lights are red so I have a feeling the card might be faulty. :(

I think I am gonna buy a new network card just to make sure it is hardware and not software, what do you guys think? I have been on ebay and looking at what will be compatible. Here is a link to the cards I have been looking at.

I think it may be down to my router as I am now using the new hub3 from virgin media and before I got it my Amiga was fine online. I gonna hook up my old router to see if that's the problem.

As long as you cannot even find "ping" in the path on your Amiga, don't spend any money.

Well I have managed to get ping to work in the shell but it only sends 1 packet and then the shell just sits there and doesn't send anymore?

Is there a way to get a USB Wireless N adaptor to work with my Amiga?

First get it to work via cable before starting playing with wifi on your Amiga.

For anyone encountering this issue, and thanks to the helpful hints by some of you, I was able to solve my own issue simply by doing a Network Reset. This is an option in Windows 10 settings. It seems to resolve the issues caused by the august '16 update.

Now I promise no longer to hijack this thread.

Well I have finally got my Amiga online, I have did a fresh install on a formatted HDD and I have installed a fresh copy of AmigaOS 3.9 and have installed everything I originally had on it other than Boing bags 3 & 4. Genesis works fine and iBrowse works a treat :). I had a feeling it was the Boing bags 3 & 4 but at least I now know what the issue was.

Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it.

glad you got it sorted! Now I can safely say that my solution only worked until the pc was restarted, then another network reset was needed. Got fed up and bought a new router. Problem solved.
