Title: USB Floppy drives and formatting 720K
Post by: RiP on December 03, 2016, 07:17:58 PM
I have two USB Floppy drives from Sony and IBM.
Both can read 720K floppies but can't format in 720K:
"FORMAT A: /T:80 /N:9"

Any solution?

I've heard that the newer ones don't support that format. Maybe try looking on ebay or whatever your local equivalent to craigslist is for an older drive?

Alternatively, if they give you some kind of error message when you try, try googling that message and see if anyone else has already posted a solution?

Are the disks 720?
If not have you put a tape to the other hole?

Well, lemme update the topic:
My USB floppy drives can't read HD floppy formatted in 720K or format HD floppy in 720K.
But they can read DD floppy formatted in 720K or format DD floppy in 720K.
While my Amiga 2000's floppy drive can format/read HD floppy in 720K mode

It didn't help.

The magnetic field is strong with this one.

Some USB floppy drives don't work well with 720k disks. I keep an ancient laptop with a real floppy drive in it around for just such uses.
