via paolo on amigaworld.net (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=41342&forum=47)....
A new update for Icaros Desktop is available for download.
http://vmwaros.blogspot.it/2016/09/icaros-desktop-213-now-available.html
This release mostly updates and fixes applications, and does not include latest enhancements to AROS code (this will happen next time...). Whole Icaros Desktop Live! (1.7 GB) and an update pack (38 MB) are available for download. Users of Icaros Desktop Light will need to use LiveUpdater with the update pack to upgrade their system.

Thanks.

Why is this stuff always packaged as an ISO?
If I download it on to a system I intend to use it on, its already there.
So I should burn it on to a CD or DVD why?
To waste media?
Honestly, if I don't intend to use the media elsewhere, its just stupid.

From the site "Icaros Desktop is a pre-configured AROS desktop environment for the PC platform, distributed on a bootable live media."
Are you seriously asking why this comes as an ISO?

Absolutely.
Why should I boot it from a CD?
In particular, if I want to run something like this in a virtual machine.
I'm not a big fans of wasting media.
And seriously aren't you just a "...pawn in game of life"?

With Virtual Box one can use the iso file and boot from it and not burn an actual cd.
-
Same with vmware, no burning required. You can also extract them with 7zip or use Windows 10's built in virtual dvd drive, or use a 3rd party for your OS of choice. I also have a Zalman ZE-300 external HD which allows you to drop the iso on to the drive and it will appear as a physical drive you can boot from. No shortage of options!

An ISO is ideal for booting in a VM, no need to burn it Jim. The issue I have with this is that there is no bootable usb image available to download, just instructions to create one that don't work on any machine I own.

My desktop with Win10 has a virtual dvd drive?
Didn't know that.
I just got the built in dvd drive on the system working by deleting the ATA drivers and rebooting to allow them to be reinstalled.
For some reason, every system I've upgraded to Win10 has lost track of its optical drive and required that trick.
And obviously I haven't set up a virtual environment recently.
I must have been in a bitchy mood yesterday, as I have plenty of CDRs and DVD+Rs laying around to burn ISOs.
Then again, until recently I couldn't use the DVD drive on the desktop. ;)

Glad to hear you got your DVD going.
I remember Vista having the DVD drive dis-appear.
It required a Registry hack to get it back.

it's easy to make a bootable USB stick with an ISO, and not a waste at all this way.
