Title: Easynet Pro DNS Issue
Post by: arongooch on September 10, 2016, 04:31:46 AM
Hi everyone, first time posting on a forum. Go easy until I learn all the rules and regulations ;)

I have an Amiga 600 with an ACA620 and PCMCIA WPA2 WiFi card which supports Prism2.device. I have successfully got Miami running and connecting to the net. With a bit more playing around and manually editing scripts etc I also got AmiTCP 3.0 to work successfully.

I am currently having great difficulties with Easynet Pro however. I can get the program to go online and am successful with pinging Googles IP address of 8.8.8.8 but DNS appears not to be working at all from either the ping command, Aweb or IBrowse.

I am using static IP addresses for all settings according to my networks setup. I have two DNS IP addresses which I got from my modem/router and entered them manually like I did in AmiTCP3.0 but it still will not work on Easynet.

I have been looking up endlessly on forum after forum for last couple of days but nothing I looked at seems to be applicable or works with my issue. Any help would be great appreciated.

Imho "EasyNet" is anything but easy. Any particular reason why you want to use it, when you already have two other working solutions? Have you considered Roadshow?

I guess because I bought it and it looked like recently updated software.

Can't get a registered version of Miami any more and keeps disconnecting every 30 mins. Also doesn't remember my static IP address' etc. Shame because I really like Miami. It even feels a fair bit quicker than Easynet.

AmiTCP3.0 works but Amiga Explorer and SMBFS don't seem to support it.

Never tried Roadshow. If that's free then I might give it a go.

You should ask AmigaKit about your issues with Easynet, it is their piece of software, as far as I know, it is not much more than a GUI for AmiTCP though.

You would probably be much better off with Roadshow, which is not free, but yet another piece of software you would need to pay for. The bonus is that though it is not actively developed, at least the author (the famous Olaf "Olsen" Barthel) frequently is available on these forums.

I use MiamiDX personally. You can find keys for it all over the net. Roadshow is modern, commercial software with a short trial to test it out. It's the fastest stack on the platform. I couldn't get it working, personally, but many people have, and rave about it's performance.

You should try RoadShow, as it's the IMO really good piece of software.
It's very lightweight and very easy to configure.

Aron has asked here for help.  He has not asked for general recommendations on TCP/IP software.

EasyNet Pro is the UI for AmiTCP 4.x which we acquired exclusive licence to distribute from NSDi back a few years ago.  It is actively developed and supported.

@AronGooch
Welcome to Amiga.org first of all!  It is great to see new users here.  Please go to the Help menu in EasyNet and Pmail me the Network Configuration output.  This will first help me understand how you have EasyNet Pro setup.  Many thanks.

Easynet is great in my humble opinion! I think, like me maybe, once you've sorted out your DNS etc issues you'll find it a great piece of software.

I appreciate all the alternatives and at this stage I am certainly committed to getting Easynet to work correctly. If worse comes to worse I will more than likely take a look at Roadshow.

Thanks for the reply and welcoming amigakit. I have opened a ticket through your website a couple days a go. Is it ok to put the "EasyNet.settings" report in the ticket? or when you say Pmail do you have a particular email address to send the report too?

Hi Aron,

Thank you very much for the network configuration summary on the ticket.

From your configuration, I spotted the error message ** WARNING: NO DNS IN USE ** so I have replied there and suggested to select the DNS to Primary.  I hope this helps and hopefully you will be up and running now :)

Hi everyone and Amigakit,

I am happy to report all is working correctly now. There is a settings under "projects" then "TCP/IP Settings" that selects "Primary/secondary & tertiary" DNS. This by default is set to "Off". Makes perfect sense now and Easynet works quite satisfactory. I did initially notice the line "** WARNING: NO DNS IN USE **" but didn't know what was causing it. Thanks for the help Amigakit.

That's great news Aron, glad it is working now!

I may move the DNS selection gadget from the TCP/IP window to the DNS window based on your feedback.

Thank you for using EasyNet Pro.
