What do you think had the best key board for typing?
Which Commodore?
Which Amiga?

I have an A4000 keyboard that I use with my 2000. Think I prefer that one the most out of the original "Amiga" keyboards. Obviously others will have different preferences.

Well...my best keyboard is not an Amiga keyboard.
I use an IBM PS2 keyboard on my CD32.
Better keyswitches than most of the market when manufactured, and definitely better than most keyboards available today.
As to Amiga keyboards, I prefer my A2000's keyboard.

Thanks.
I was wondering if a C128 or A500 be a decent typing experience.
-
A2000 keyboards and DEC vt-220 keyboards.
-
No love for the A1000 keyboard?
The others seem mushy to me, but the A1000 seems a little more clicky.

One of my favourite Amiga keyboards isn't a real Amiga keyboard either. There's a Mitsumi AT keyboard that accepts Amiga 1200 key caps.

This isn't mine
It's the keyboard I bought for my first DIY A1200 tower conversion. At the time I had no idea that Mitsumi manufactured some of the Keyboards for Commodore so it was rather a case of pot luck that I bought this one. Curiosity led me to seeing if I could swap the keys.
This particular model can still be found on Ebay.
I have an A4000 keyboard I can use for my CD32.

The A1000 keyboard uses mechanical switches whereas the later models used membranes.

I used every Amiga models keyboards. And i think, the best for a long and heavy typing work, is the A2000. Is strong, durable, and have comfort. Had many Amigas, and many Amigas passed for my hands, and the A2000 keyboards was the only ones never had Ctrl+A+A damage issues. (a common fail on Amiga keyboards).
Recently i used A1200 for write articles for a Car News magazine, and was fine for that heavy work.

Best Commodore keyboard, well that would be the Pet 2001! :-)
I owned an Amiga 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 3000T and a 4000. Without a doubt I thought the Amiga 3000 keyboard was really good. Great feedback, right key distance, well spaced, solid feel, and very responsive.
Just my opinion,
-P

Actually, no. The earlier A2000 series still had mechanical keys. So does mine. It's still operational, after all the years. But, frankly, I like my Cherry "blue" keyboard better.

The keyboard I kinda love right now is the black NeXTStation mechanical keyboard. Wonderful key feels. Day to day, however, I use the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard. I just wish it was wired.
My A4000 keyboard isn't bad, but neither the A1200s I have nor the A4000 is as nice as the ones mentioned above.

Maybe I should have asked which keyboards to avoid for typing.
It sounds like it would be a good idea to get a mechanical keyboard (cherry) to Amiga keyboard adapter.
I also need a A1000 keyboard and finish putting my A1000 together.

Yep, still the best keyswitches available.

The 4000 keyboards I have are pretty bad, you don't press the keys, you mash the keys.
I'm very picky about keyboards though, I need a good, sharp tactile feedback to be comfortable otherwise my hands are exhausted quickly.
I vaguely remember some A2000's with nice keybaords, but mine aren't them.
I'm currently using a PS/2 adapter with a Keytronic. For a cheap $19 keyboard they are actually really good.
I just can't use my beloved Unicomp buckling spring keyboard at home in the middle of the night or else I'd have another one of them on my Amiga ;)

I have a couple A2000 keyboards that are all very different feeling. One in that bunch is a standout however.
I also like my A1000 keyboard a lot.
I am working on a book right now, so the keyboards are getting a real workout.

What kind of book and good luck on it?
-
Best keyboard? IBM model M. Not Amiga, I know, but it is virtually indestructable and will most likely outlive me.
-
hmm I like my A1000 keyboard best since it fits perfectly on my lap:biglaugh:
-
Anything with good switches (Cherry, etc) and a normal, full size layout.
-
i agree my fav amiga keyboard is a4000

The Model M is indeed a fantastic keyboard. I still use an original 1984 Model M on my Core i7 desktop. It's been with me since the 386 I had about 20 years ago.

Favorite keyboard is the 3000D keyboard. Best feel, great life. There is a difference between the various Amiga models, I lined them all up to confirm and to my fingers the 3000D is the best. Tried multiple 3000D keyboards to confirm quality and yep, they are all wonderful. 2000D and 4000D keyboard is a bit mashy and tough.
If you wanted to go the clicky route, NMB and other similar PC style keyboards are fine.
Using a Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 now, and it is ok. Nothing compared to the Amiga 3000D
