What is the latest revision of workbench that can run on an UNACCELERATED Amiga 500 (with 10 megs of RAM) without being so slow that it's unusable? Back in the day, on my original A500 I bought when I started college with their "student discount" plan, I only used 1.3, and never upgraded the KS to upgrade to 2.0. I am thinking of upgrading the KS to 3.1 on this used one I bought a few years back, but, need to know if even WB 3.1 will run on it without slowing it down to a kludge.
Thanks!

3.1. The speed (on the workbench) depends mostly on the number of colors of the screen. With the standard 4 color screen, you're fine on 3.1.

I'd pay the $5 bucks and get yourself a 68010. Enables a few minor additional features and a 5% speedup. 3.1 will work fine. :)

I use 3.1 on my A500 (8 MB fast plus an 68010 cpu). Works at least as fast as 1.x. No problems at all.

Are you booting from floppy or is there a hard drive or some other mass storage?

I've been gone for a while and am not current on the latest trends.
I'm a fan of the BetterWB package. It tries to optimize and add modern capabilities to WB3.1 without adding resource-hungry bloat. I bring it up because for the install script to work, it must be installed immediately after a fresh install of WB3.1 (before you add other stuff and move things around). If you haven't heard of it, you can read about it and download it from here: http://lilliput.amiga-projects.net/BetterWB.htm
This is my usual starting place and I then add other favorites and eye candy atop this. Food for thought.
+ 1 on the 68010.
