Title: What icon sets are you folks using?
Post by: blakespot on July 25, 2016, 11:13:28 PM
I am currently using MUI icons designed for interlaced modes (tall), but have decided to go back to a 640x256 screen mode and am wondering what iconset to use.

I installed ClassicWB 68K on this system orig, but re-did the icons with the aforementioned MUI icons and I'm not sure how to easily "revert back." But maybe there are better options.

This is an ECS A2000 '020 that I am running with a 8-color WB.

Thanks for opinions.

3.9 GlowIcons on my A500
Ken's Icons v4 on my A2000

I tend to spend hours picking & choosing, though.  I'd Imagine I've downloaded just about every icon pack there is on Aminet over the years, and tend to change just about everything to suit my taste.  That's always been one of my favorite things about Amiga - the level of customization - no two will ever look alike!  ;)

For you I would recommend this:  http://aminet.net/package/pix/mwb/StandardMagicWB16

It's a collection of almost every MagicWB icon ever created.

Also don't forget the Peter K. icon library!  http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/IconLib_46.4

PS - personal pet peeve - they're not "MUI icons", they're MagicWB.  MUI was the interface, MagicWB is the icons/fonts/backgrounds stylization.  http://www.sasg.com/  Cheers!  ;)

I'm running pretty much "stock" systems - I use the default GlowIcons on my 3.9 machine and the default OS3.1 set on my other machines (saves on RAM).

Mostly Kens, some Masons, butt-tonne of regular old Glow Icons, and a bunch of custom PNG icons I made with GIMP.

MagicWB standard on my main A1200, and half-height MagicWB on my A600 (with 8833 monitor).
Next to those, I'd choose some of the other old fashioned icon packs on Aminet. I don't even like NewIcons...far too modern for me!

This may change in the future though, but for now I'm still happy living in the early 90's.

I downloaded SmallMagic1-4.lha, a set of short non laced height MWB icons. Seems to be the set I need. I've also dl'ed several Icon Update apps. They are one icon at a time.

Is there a way to replace most/all of the SYS: icons automatically pointing at source dirs?

http://aminet.net/package/pix/mwb/SmallMagic1-4

Thanks.

With 3.9 you can just drag & drop.  With 3.1 you'll probably want to use one of the more advanced icon editors to change them out, since AFAIR the one it comes with is pretty rudimentary.

You might also want to take a look at SwazInfo:  http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/SwazInfo18b

AFAIK changing them "en masse" like you're talking about is going to take writing a script.

Take a look at this blog for some other good tips for sprucing up an ECS Workbench:  http://www.mfilos.com/2012/01/guide-making-workbench-prettier-using.html
