Title: indivision ecs scandoubler questions
Post by: SMN on April 25, 2016, 05:56:38 PM
Greetings from first time poster !

I just bought the indivision ecs scandoubler for my
Amiga 500 with rev 6a board.

But there are some things in the manual I dont understand.

I cant find the resolution modes. According to the manual,
The screenmodes can be found in the Workbench's Prefs drawer. But there is nothing there. My workbench version is 1.3

And how do I use the config tool?
I cant find any decent instructions anywhere how to transfer it to the the machine.

Hope you guys can help :)

Best regards Friom Nøørwaay ;)

I don't think the configuration tools work with 1.3, and the additional screenmodes definitely won't work.  (HighGFX, SuperPlus, HD720, etc.).  With 1.3 you're going to be pretty much stuck with just plugging it in and using it directly.  It doesn't "require" any additional software, but obviously if you want to take advantage of some of the more advanced features, you're going to have to upgrade beyond 1.3.

And seriously, a 3.1 ROM is less than $20 bucks...  :p

Welcome! Fully customizable screen modes only exist under OS2.x or higher. For 1.3 you have just the choice between normal (640x256 for PAL) and interlaced (640x512).

The config tool may require 2.x or above - I'm not certain. The only important option in it is whether the Indivision should also tweak the vertical refresh to be compatible with LCDs that can't do 50Hz. The other options are just minor preferences.

Getting the tool to your Amiga is the same as getting any other file to your Amiga, although if you've never done it before it can be a bit of a chicken and egg problem. Serial link with Cloanto's Amiga Explorer is my recommendation. There are hardware solutions that can give you a CompactFlash slot internally or externally, replacement floppy drives that use adf disk images, and I think there are some hacks to write Amiga floppies from PCs now, although I might be remembering that wrong and they're read-only.
