Of course If I were living nearby or not too far I'll come but it isn't the case. These conferences should be shared with all developers or wannabe developers so they can learn. What we miss the most are developers so it should be in an ideal world recorded and shared.

How far away are you?
The idea of a show like AmiWest is to have folks come and visit.
We would like very much to figure out why you won't. If it something we can fix, we will!

Thanks Robert.

Yes, that's great, because I may be a nutter from the East coast, but I don't want to travel that far (btw - what is UP with you Europeans that are willing to travel further?).

a couple of updates from the amiwest blog (http://www.amiwest.net/amiwest2016blog/) to bring to your attention: first up is that sam crow will be at the show this year on behalf of apollo accelerators:
Back in the day, Apollo made some great accelerators for classic Amigas. Well, they're at it again. And they will be bringing an examplet to AmiWest 2016. Reportedly, that example will be their new accelerator for Amiga 500. You won't want to miss this exhibit! See their site here for more information.
Sam Crow will represent the company. Sam was with us in 2012 in another capacity. We welcome him back to the show and really look forward to seeing this latest product work wonders for an A500.
But you can't see it run if you don't come. Make your plans now - we're getting closer every day.
so if you're interested in playing with a system with the latest vampire installed, amiwest is your best bet. and the organizing committee has also finalized arrangements for group rates at the show hotel (http://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/sacramento/saces/hoteldetail):
Room rates for AmiWest 2016 are now available. Our instructions for this year are to call the hotel front desk at 916-923-1100 to place your room reservation. Request the group rate for AmiWest. Here are the rates:
- Two beds - $92.00 per night.
- Suite - $113.00 per night.
Both rates include a hot breakfast per night of stay.
Reservations at these rates are being accepted until September 12, 2016. We have blocks of rooms set aside at these rates. To get credit for our blocks, please ask for the AmiWest group rate when you call.
At this time, the group code on the website is still not active We do realize that calling the hotel for our international travelers may be impractical and we are working to fix this.
and lastly the amiwest organizing committee is soliciting feedback on why you, personally, still use and enjoy the amiga platform in 2016. more information here (http://www.amiwest.net/amiwest2016blog/#sect6.).

Thanks for the reminder. I just booked my hotel a few miles away - the Super 8 on Madison Avenue - for about $50 a night (with AARP discount and not including tax), checking in on Oct. 6 and departing on Oct. 9.

Wow! One email to inquire about the cost of a table and suddenly there's a blog entry announcing I'm coming! I feel some pressure now. First priority: Get my hands on that prototype Vampire 500! Second priority: Line up ways to save on travel expenses! Third priority: Actually sign up for a table!
Number 1: Getting the V500 is being worked on, not much more I can do now.
Number 2: Is anyone willing to chip in for gas money if you need a ride from North LA metro area? The tentative plan (current emphasis on tentative) is to drive from Northern Colorado, drop my wife off in Pasadena and drive from there up to Sacramento after a short stay at my in-laws'. After that I hope to stay for the whole show and drive back down to Pasadena and drive back to Colorado.
I also will need to room with somebody else once I get to Sacramento because I'm not sure I'll be able to get a room by myself on my budget.
Number 3: I may be able to get Airsoft Softwair to chip in on the table if I have a Hollywood demo on the same table. I have the equipment to do a second display for this so it may be a little crowded.
In summary: If I can make it to AmiWest, I will. I need to make arrangements first for a room once I get there and do some ride-sharing.

I am going and am leaving from Port Hueneme (Its about an hour North of LA). If its worth renting a larger vehicle for the weekend I may do that if a couple others want to ride up with me. I need room for my repair gear and plan to leave Friday morning to make the repair clinic.
As far as sharing a room I think Magnetic is going with me as well and wanted to share one, but I bet we could get a roll away if you care for that.
-
I says...Just for now...
Until he's sure he can make it (I think he has commitment issues) to AmiWest2016!
(big grin)
I wish we could make it totally free for everyone to just come and enjoy!
I can't tell you how sorry I am that travel and lodging cost money.
Money and time and travel and distance...It's the bane of the show...
-
@SACC-guy and theprez
Thanks! The deal is that my sister's wedding is in August and I have to drive to Minnesota for that and don't know how much gas money I'll have left afterwards. Oddly, getting time off of work for both occasions was no problem. If I can make it I certainly will.

I don't know yet for certain, but I don't fully expect to be able to attend yet again. Please let me know where to donate toward online videos of the programming conference for those of us who cant get there!

Donate? Well, because I film non-stop without a break, a sandwich and a beverage would be good. ;)
In fact, today I filmed an event for 8 hours, standing up for 99% of the time, just a couple of minutes every so often to have a sip of iced tea, no bathroom break, no meal break. I'm a bit sore for standing up so long (and I'm sure I'll pay for it tomorrow).
Good practice for Amiwest!

Looks like SamuraiCrow isnt sure he can make it to the show, and since hes the presenter of the Vampire at the show (if I read this thread right), having that on the AmiWest showlist is no good (unless someone else steps up).

Exactly. By the time I got my Vampire board, the A500 was shot and I had to get a new one. I will keep you posted on the status of the new V500 system.

As long as you are leaving up for the show on Friday the 7th and returning on the 10th (or even Sunday night is fine) you are more than welcome to stay with me in my room. Heck being able to sit and enjoy the ride and pay for gas would be awesome!

@thread
only another seven weeks to go before amiwest 2016 kicks off in sunny sacramento, so be sure to get your travel plans finalized soon. in the mean time there are a few blog updates (http://www.amiwest.net/amiwest2016blog/) from the amiwest organizers, announcing the attendance of amiga.org members amigadave and acill, who will be manning the MOS display this year.
actually quite a few amiga.org members are planning on being there this year; depending on how many show, we might consider going out as a group at some point.

Got my room reserved in the hotel! Cant wait for this years show!!!!
-
Hi all!
AMIWEST 2016 HOTEL RESERVATIONS
Reserve using this procedure:
RESERVE BY PHONE:
Reserve by phone at 916-923-1100. Then email immediately to info@amiwest.net
with "Hotel reservation" in the subject line so I can add you to the list.
Please give your actual name in the email body (i.e., instead of your "handle.")
RESERVE ONLINE
If reserving online and the "ami" (no quotes) group code doesn't function, leave a message in the Special Requests box like this:
"Reserving for under the negotiated AmiWest 2016 group rate of
<$92/night, 2 queen beds> <$113/night, suite>." Edit within the brackets to
suit.
Print the reservation to bring to the show to give a date, a time and the rate documented.
Then email immediately to info@amiwest.net with "Hotel reservation" in the subject line
so I can add you to the list. Please give your actual name in the email body (i.e., instead of your "handle.")
Some have made the group code work and have reserved online without
issue. Unfortunately, the IHG (International Hotels Group) server is
inconsistent in its implementation. We have a written contract for these
rates and so we can, with a dated and timed reservation, activate them for
our participants.
Feel free to post this so others can reserve as well. Please do
this TODAY (the rates have been posted since July 18) so we can see if we
need to add rooms to the block. These rates expire on September 12.

AmiWest is a meeting of Amigans from many world areas. We have heard that we will have visitors for 2016 from Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Canada, and perhaps Belgium and Germany, in addition to our U.S. guests. Everyone comes together to share knowledge, progress and memories.
And we all have a great time in the process! One of our first-time guests said a few years ago, "You guys throw a great party!" While we don't intend to do that, it does happen along the way. Some of the world's most creative people attend to add to the fund of Amiga® knowledge.
Make your plans now to come and take part! Yes, for many it is a long and expensive trip. That's true of any physical gathering anywhere - people do have to travel to get here. And if you come, we can pass along what is shared here. That happens best in person. We look forward to greeting you at this year's gathering, the 19th consecutive AmiWest show.
AmiWest 2016 and associated events will be October 6-9, 2016 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2224 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Make your plans to attend now. If you've attended before, bring one other person who is new to the show. If this will be your first time, welcome to the show! See our website at amiwest.net for the latest information and watch this blog for breaking news about the show. See you in October!
-
Looking forward to this years show! Got a room booked and off the hook at work, what more can you ask for ;)

Make it now!!! Cant wait! This year will be rough though. I am on travel for work and get back on the 3rd, drive up on the 7th and back on the 10th, head out to Virginia on the 12th. Sheesh! The things we do for this hobby!

Googled for it because previous poster didn't provide a link. Found this site:

I can't make heads nor tales of it. Sounds like "Apollo" is just another way of saying "Vampire". Maybe it's just me, but I get really irritated by incomplete information, lol. ;)

Apollo is the CPU (core) owners name, the 68080 core is licensed for use in the Vampire 2 accelerators (other product brands may also use the core in the future e.g. Natami, Phoenix etc.)
AFAIK there is no connection to previous accelerators using the Apollo name.

Probably a confusion between the Appollo that Jens bought up and the Appollo CPU core inside the Vampire FPGA board...

The FPGA Apollo-core is not a company yet. The other Apollo accelerators were different people.

strange that you are confusing this, if you are posting on behalf of amiwest organisators you should put it straight in order not to furtherly confuse general public or potential participants.
sam crow, who is apparently attending your show in capacity to represent apollo team, said this already but maybe its not clear enough.
apollo team, providing fpga core for vampire accelerators, has nothing to do with the company that produced apollo accelerators once upon a time. apollo team isnt even a company. it is, so far i gather, simply an initiative of people with a common interest. one may be picky about their choice of name, but it is their decission, and it isnt too hard to inform oneself about who is who and what is what even on these forums..

Hopefully there will be some actual Amigas there for sale this go around. Would be nice to snag an AGA machine...
